Super Jet i just melted a battery post...

Ok here is my baseline before today: since i bought the ski, I've had isues with the ski randomly losing power and going between running great and horrible... Shortly after purchase, i had to buy a new battery bc mine crapped out. Next the starter crapped out. a month later and my battery is going dead in the water when i go to crank it. But im keeping it on a tender in between rides.

Now 2 weeks ago I went to crank it and my negative post on my new battery melted to nothing and was smoking hot.to troubleshoot, i bridged the power to attempt to turn the engine and the recently replaced starter smokes like crazy!!!
So what could be my problem? Whats causing my problems??

A bad ground cable.

i would keep an eye on that starter......i had one on my wifes 750 melt down the positive post because the starter armature shorted....it was smoked.......

all these symptoms are caused by bad cable.. resistance goes up and current demand follows until something fails. starter armatures will react to this just like a fuseable link does in a car.
