I made a locknut to fix my UMI steering!

I agree. On my old SJ I used a Tuff Thrust form Jetski Solutions. Worked great and never had to worry about rust or water getting in there.

Yeah. Check out the roller bearing (not the flat type) and o-rings everywhere on this setup. For only $20-$30 more than the UMI kit, its worth it.

I never remember my nut getting so lose so quick in the past. This thing is drivin me nuts this year! What about 2 really skinny nuts tightened against each other? Like pole bolts are sometimes. Anyone found anything like that?

Does TBM sell just parts of that to upgrade existing UMI?

Yes I have tried two jam nuts what a pain that didn’t help either. Get the shaft collar from McMaster for $11.38:biggthumpup:

Properly applied loctite finally worked for me.

JSS said to clean the threads with acetone and add one drop of Loctite. I think I will try the McMaster locknut if his method fails me. I too use the JSS Tuff Thrust and the SS main bearing. My original UMI was shot in a few months, despite meticulous care.

I've tried the loctite method for about five times before I finally got it right.
Clean the threads with brake cleaner, clean the nut, apply red loctite, tighten & let it sit for 24 hours.
