It sounds like both of you got something unexpected(for him title issues and maybe parts missing that weren't expected, for you the loss of a battery)

Walmart sells batteries for 40 bucks. They're 8lbs and work great. Go buy one of those
wal-marts suck, i mean they ok but still like 55 buck, this one i left in ski was a sealed one that coast 100 bucks
