Got a bit more done this weekend. Lots of sanding, vacuuming, cleaning, then filled and reinforced the inside with carbon.
It's going to be ok I hope, but not quite as nice as I'd hoped. It's tough to smooth out the rocker cuts and fill them to be even. Luckily all of this will be hidden :D20150614_175852[1].jpg 20150614_175832[1].jpg

I ended up doing 2 layers of carbon. sides @ 45, bottom @ 45, sides @ 90 and bottom @ 90. The corners overlapped 1/2-3/4 of an inch onto the adjacent surface.

here's the bottom and first side layer. I have more done, but this is the latest pic. I filled the bond rail, the area between hood channel and sides, and flattened out the chines (all with cabosil/epoxy mix) to get the carbon to lay better. Didn't quite work out, but it'll be tough, and the inside is rarely seen anyway.

I'm guinea pigging this process anyway.

Started building the floor to be cut and bonded in.
Again, I have the BOB footholds and am going to do the kit in relatively standard fashion once the floor is bonded in.
I did 16 layers of carbon which will end up being about 1/8" thick. To save some time and material, I went jenky.
The roll we have is 60" and the floor template is about 29x26. I cut the roll in 30" sections and 28" sections to have 8 28x60 pieces and 8 30x60 pieces.
Then I started with a 28x60 with a 28" end at the "rear" of the floor and the extra length going onto the table, then layed a 30x60 with a 30" end on the RH side of the floor and the extra hanging off the left side.
Once those layers were wetted, I folded the extra 28x60 onto the wetted area, and then the 30x60 piece after. It basically was my way of saving the extra time to cut all 8 of the 60" pieces in half. So, layup ended up being as follows. 0/90/0/90/0/90/0/90-90/0/90/0/90/0/90/0
I'll have to take a picture of my planning on the white board, it's pretty much non-sense to anyone who wasn't around to learn the code, lol.

Here's how it looked after 8 hrs, the folded ends didnt stay real tight, but I'm not overly worried as I have some room to move when I cut to fit into the tray.
Before laying down the carbon, I put wax paper over the table surface, sprayed the wax paper with a couple coats of hair spray, and let dry.

Friday I cut the carbon floor to shape.
Test fit the footholds and found there was about a 3/4inch gap from floor to footholds.
I decided to just cut them at the floor and fill the gap later with material.
I also sanded some more to prep for bonding everything.

lyeah, we will see, could look terrible when it's done.

Nah! I have high confidence in you! You've got this.

P.S. What are your thoughts of cutting out the "floor area" on the BOB fiberglass pieces and just use your carbon floor and the side pieces from the BOB kit? Might be easier than filling the gap. Just an idea.

I did the same thing with the set of BOB footholds I installed, it almost seems pointless to build them with that floor, I can't see how they would fit in anything and that stupid filler piece that they send with is a complete waste of materials.

It would have been like an inch of filler to make it work out, so I'm going to bond the sides in and then fill the gap at the bottom. The floor is solid, it was damn hard to break a 2x0. 5 inch piece of it.
