I think my exhaust is hooked up backwards ..?

Recently bought this custom rn top deck converted sj and it has a front exhaust. Well i tow it a 1/4 mile to the lake next to my boat.....2 out of 4 times i get water in the motor ...... while replacing the stripped driveshaft i noticed this...... backwards am i correct ?

and for the people say remove the front exhaust the rear is all foamed in by previous owner, it is not an option this far into the season.

I think that is correct. How fast are you towing it? I ask because if you tow fast enough to load the pump it will be flowing water and filling up your motor. Pinch the cooling lines off before you tow.

Towing your ski can cause water to be forced up the cooling line and flood the engine... You should clamp off that line when towing for extended periods.

As far as the exhaust- do you mean the exhaust pipe should connect to the fitting currently being used as the outlet? I'm not familiar with that model of waterbox, possibly for a 650 sx? Someone should be able to tell you. However, I think it would make sense that the exhaust pipe was connected to the higher fitting.

You would probably have a very hard time hooking it up any other way, definitely looks like a kawasaki waterbox. I would have to agree with the other comments, the water is coming in through your pump/cooling lines, not your exhaust. If you will be towing it a lot, put some valves in the incoming cooling lines so you can close them while towing, just don't forget about them when you go to ride.

it is wrong. the top pipe on the waterbox is the inlet and the bottom is the exit. with the top being the exit, its going to be full of water before it starts pushing water out the top hose. i didnt read any of this just looked at the pic. thats a kawi 650sx waterbox

Yep Buzzard is right. That's backwards. That said, towing will definitely pump water through lines, been there.

Defiantly backwards but it doesn't really look like you can hook it up the other way due to the exhaust outlet being so high.... Not really sure what I would do

Thanks for all the replies. I dont really tow it. I strap it to the side of my pontoon boat, no more than 5 mph. I tow three skis out and this is the only one that gets water in it. But I figured it out.....i pick up the front alil when towing it with the strap, the water must just drain right on it when I do that.

So maybe I could put more foam under it and raise it up and inch or more and get new hose for now.....any ideas shout

Well I reversed the exhaust, runs way better and is loud as licorice.
Before it wasn't loud as all, but if you look into water box the Inlet has a nice stinger.
Can't believe some people on here are that dumb.
