Because the surfers would have mad envy.

You're looking at it the wrong way. This is being sold as a novelty in most cases. This would be annoying to riders who want to calmly sit in the surf and yawn. It would be annoying to jet skiers trying to race or tube.

Looking at this from another angle, it is small and light enough it would probably work just as good as any other surf board. Imagine if you no longer needed a jet ski to tow you for a drop-in to a huge wave. Imagine if you live in an area with sand bars just off shore that you couldn't otherwise surf. Imagine if you live in an area with cliffs with a sick beach just down the way that you otherwise can't access. Imagine if you have long waves and no longer half to paddle a 1/4 mile out to the surf, so even though you don't surf with the motor, you can now access 3 times as many waves in a day.

Something like this give surfers the ability to get anywhere they want to surf, then shut it down and surf.

Check out this video... How archaic.

You're looking at this with far too much naivety and positive attitude.
Something that is intended as the best of both worlds - whatever that may be - usually ends up being the worst of everything and is forgotten by history very quickly.

I can't argue that at all. It will be heavy and suck as a surf board compared to a surf board, targeting a market that wouldn't spend x20 the money to do less the sport. I don't think it's going to take off, sell a bunch and make a lot of money. I wouldn't invest in it any more than the water powered hover boards and jet packs. I just see that to the right people in certain situations, it's pretty cool. If some guy invented it to do something he wanted to do, he's a genius. If some guy invented it because he thought he might get rich, he might not be that smart.

Like Obama...
And I don't see anyway that this would be any different than most of us that ski in the surf, the surfers are gonna hate as much as they already do. I lived on the central coast of California for 6 years and surfed twice a day minimum. There are so many places that that have great set-ups/reefs that not only never have surfers but can't access with a ski. This is it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ued-lMSNkow

33 pounds for the rtr board actually is not that bad. Its not going to ride like a thruster or any hybrid board and isn't intended to just take it out to your local surf spot. And if everyone followed the logic on don't create it unless you will make a lot of money, then most of us would be still riding around on Superjets

It's not all about HP, especially for low RPM direct drive systems. (Because HP is a function of torque at a given RPM)

Every other vid I've ever seen of this thing shows it in FLAT water, which In my opinion would suck, but I just found this,

I'm liking this thing more and more. This is the closest thing I have ever seen to the Holy Grail- a functional motorized surf board. You nay sayers have no clue. This thing wasn't intended to be ridden among a group of paddle surfers, its for some empty point in Baja or equally deserted place. And it doesn't need to be fast, just fast enough to get you out and into the next wave (without paddling) once your on the wave, the waves power does the rest. Surfing without paddling or sitting-Booyaa!
