Identify this Riva Cylinder

Just picked up another Superjet. Has quite a few mods but this guy bought it off his buddy who used to race. He couldn't really tell me much about it .

It obviously has a Riva cylinder on it...what im curious about is this "5m" number. I didn't see any other markings besides a 4 digit serial number.

Very well could be. I used to run a RIVA super stock ported 61X cyl. and it had the exact Riva logo, but no 5m.

but then again its a stock cylinder so you would think you would see a 5mm stroker plate.
I'd call Riva and ask them!
Nice score!

Riva would run a 2.5mm plate under the head for their 5mil strokers. Is it a riva head? That set up goes way back. Hopefully tim judge ported it. If so it will be an arm stretcher for ya.

The previous owner said its a Riva head...however there are no markings on it at all. It looks VERY similar to my other Riva head I have in shape.

The head is just flat and aluminum with no markings.

I haven't been able to get ahold of Riva at all..tech line always just says leave a message.

I am going to pull the head here in a bit to further inspect it and also measure the bore.

It could be resleaved as well. Tim Judge used R&D pistons and R&D sleaves to make 85mm-86.5mm bore. Take the head off. Lets see what ya got.
The bad is, if its ported for 5mil but running on a standard stroke crank it may not run too well.

I do not see a plate under the cylinder or the head. You may still be good though, the head may be made for a 5mil. stroker. Havent seen one that way, but you may be lucky and have one that way. If the head doesnt say riva like all others it may be custome made?????
im curious, pull the head LOL.

Interesting. I will be getting some pictures and measurements this evening. Previous owner said it screams....however he really didn't know much about skis so to him a Tigershark may be fast.

Blah....pulled the head and didn't see anything too special. Motor is ported, head is in great shape and pistons look like new. Some minor scuffs on the cylinder walls but nothing to keep me from running it the way it is.

Guess the 5m is just some code for something else.

The big riva guys are hard to get a hold of... Mainly the guy you need to talk to is Bubba. I called for a week and never got a hold of him... so really you can just call tim judge at his place in georgia... he designed all the porting templates, so he'll know what it means for sure, even if he didnt port it himself.

It doesnt have a SP engraved on it does it?

SP Stands for?

Only thing I saw was the 5m number and a 4 digit number. On the other side it says Riva.

On my other Riva ported cylinder it has a code that basically tells you its a pump gas ported cylinder and it also has a serial number.

SP - Scott Porterfield... (pottsfield maybe? I forget)

He does/did a lot of the cylinders there.

I asked without thinking, but that is definitely not scotts hand writing style on the "RIVA"

Might be bubba, or Tim if it was a race motor.

I sent some pictures to another forum member and he said it does not look like Tim's work.

I will compare it to my other cylinder this evening and see if it looks similar to it. I know Bubba did the other one for sure.

Hey man, Nice score, SO what are the specs. How many cc is it? Is it just the big bore no stroker? Post some pictures. And if it is just a big bore then the carbs should be fine.
