why do you feel you need to rebuild the carbs .. they just may be perfect as they are .. try it before you waste your time rebuiding them .. I have bought many old skis that have sat for years .. many years and most have not had any carb issues ..i just drained the old gas .. dropped a few extra drops of 2 stroke oil down the cylinders and then primed the carbs with a squirt of gas ... with fresh gas in the tank .. away they go .. if it was put a way properly .. that ski should be fine as it is ... just get yourself a good battery and ride !

I rebuild every carb on every ski I purchase.

I am TREMENDOUSLY obsessive compulsive, though.

He is in the scullville/somers point area. He does great work and is super fair on prices.
I know the last time a friend went there at the end of the summer he was in the process of changing shops and trying to work out of his house so he was a bit busy to say the least.
I'm sure he would easily take care of your carbs. He's local too.

Congrats - I have a 750sx. Like you, I don't know a lot about the engines but I learned a helluva lot in the past two years. Go to your local Kawi dealer and buy a shop manual. It may run you anywhere up to $50 but will be worth it - trust me. You'll see how easy it is to remove the carbs and send them down to LPW for the rebuild.

Well the ski arrived yesterday and I took a look under the hood and it is clean, clean, clean. I was so surprised how small it was even with the trailer as I was able to fit it with my couch in my garage (single car).

Now, what is the best way to get the gas and oil out, a siphon?

I wish my brother in law had spare ski setting around.

Do everything stated above, but wait on doing any work on the carb's for now. I have started ski's sitting for years and just drain the gas and oil and put new spark plugs and battery in and they start right up. If they are clogged up and need to be cleaned out that is not a hard job to do. But don't spend the money till you get a battery and try to start it. If it starts up then go ride it and see what you think. I bet it starts and there will be no need to miss with them.

Go to Ebay and look for a manual. There are plenty of them out there.

Well, I got a manual (my brother in law sent it up with the ski), so that is out of the way.

I went to Lowes and bought a siphon and got as much as the gas and oil out as I could, so that is taking care of.

I am not too crazy about the green and purple decals so I started to take some of them off with a hair dryer and plastic scraper. Man, that is going to take a while but I guess I have about 4 months to get that done.

I'm starting to look online for a battery that will fit the ski. I have an Odyssey in my couch, Jetworks has been suggested here (I believe Jeyworks is a drycell as well) but if anybody can suggest a particular battery that they know fits, I'm all ears. I'd hate to order one and get one that doesn't fit.

I'll keep posting as I progress but looks like I have something to do over the winter now :).

I agree. I wouldn't mess with the carbs unless they need it. Especially if the ski is clean. I would guess that it will fire right up...

Dude that is great that you got a standup you will love it. I bought a 96 750SXi and the boat was sitting around for two or three years. Need less to say, the carbs were shot. Spend some money and get a set of real carbs for that boat. And if I had to do it all over again I would have went with a single carb setup. Way less work. Good luck and maybe see ya at the Daytona ride in two weeks.

Just ride
Anthony, I work at Sea Isle Watersports and I can get you anything you need and were right around the corner. We do winterizations there and any other work you would need done on your ski. Shoot me a PM and we can set up a day and you can bring your ski by and we'll get it running and winterize it.
We ride down at corsons every weekend in the summer too, and I ride from the dock behind my house on 47th place in the bay during the week when I get done work so we could ride then too.

Cool.

I'm in Marlton, NJ now and only stay down in Sea Isle during the weekends in the summer (I guess my "Location" is misleading).

Now to find a battery . . .

I took a picture of the ski. Check it out:

I'm planning on taking all the decals off (not a big fan of purple and green). Not sure what I'll do after. I will probably leave the SXi on there though because I think that looks pretty cool.

it looks like my old sxi before i retaped the lines of purple and sprayed them black. It was easy:biggrin:

Anthony, Congrats on your new purchase!!!

Sorry for giving you the feeling I left! While that is physicaly true, I'm on here often & can be easily reached at the shop. I'm more than happy to work with you as others have mentioned. If you feel mechanicly challanged, I have a list of friends in NJ who would be more than willing to help. All you would need to do is contact me & I'll be happy to refrence you to someone close to you.

Like others have said, drain the old gas, fill with fresh, install a new battery & some fresh plugs & give it a go. You might be pleasantly surprised.......!

Next week is the first & maybe the biggest freeride of the season, in Daytona. Get your boat running & contact some of the NJ crew like Pancake or Alex. I'm sure they can find room for one more in their carravan.......... Hope to meet you there!!

Enjoy your new toy!!!

Ski ya, Paul
