Hi guys.
So my KVX hull is going to Texas. Has anyone experience first hand with import of a hull or similar from outside US, to US (texas this case)
The shipping company's i talked with in DK, tells me that you need a broker in US and also a bond - and i in some cases be registered to import?

Any help is a appreciated.
Thanks Christian

I'd call guys like Thrust or TC Freeride. They ship alot of skis around the globe and might beable to point you in the right direction. PS: congrats on the sale, you gave that thing away

If the value is over $2500 (I think that is it) they will need a customs broker on the receiving end. If not, it's pretty simple and they can just pick it up at the receiving company after it goes through customs.

okay, is "all" thats needed a broker? Becasue one of the shipping companies i've contacted (Danish) said it needs to be a company address they ship to AND that company NEED to have be import registered (and have a broker)

Thanks for your answers

I wish I had more info for you, my experience is limited to a single hull I had shipped over from EU. It landed in the states but I was told I couldn't retrieve it because I needed a broker to import a watercraft. I told them it was not a complete machine and brought an invoice from the seller stating the value (which was below the threshold for requiring a broker).

Okai good info, thanks - So hull only (not complete ski) with value under 2500 usd, would not require broker?

My guide as of the hull I just picked up from o'hare airport terminal in chicago earlier this morning.
1. Buy hull you thought was getting shipped from inside the US.
2. Get tracking info which shows it being shipped from eastern europe.
3. Insert lots of pick up my eastern European mail order (bride) jokes from family, friends, etc.
4. Call shipping company to find out when it will be available, they tell me that theres a $90 dock fee and ask who my broker is...uhm do I need a broker? shipping person comes back to the phone and says no, you can fill out the customs paperwork yourself about a mile from here. But if you don`t pick up the hull the day after it comes in we will charge you daily storage.
5. Pickup paperwork and get the address for customs
6. Take paperwork to customs where they tell me I do need a customs broker (2000 eu so just under $2300 usd) value, they give me a list of brokers one of which is in the next building over.
7. Take paperwork to broker who charges $130 entry fee, $30 customs bond, $25 expedited fee to get it done in 45 minutes and a customs duty fee of $2.10.
8. Take paperwork back to terminal pay their $90 dock fee wait forever for driver to use forklift to bring the pallet to the door.......all so I can grab the hull pick it up and walk it over to my car......damn I love carbon fiber hulls.

In all it went really smooth for me not having any idea WTF I was doing. wasn`t bad at all. So if you need a customs broker for the chicago area I know a place..
