I just opened my flywheel cover up to pull the the flywheel and stator and found some dark residue behind it. When these are installed with the bendix is there a grease that is used that coulda got flung around in there? I just wanna make sure it's not a crank seal leaking. The residue is very thick and doesn't really have a smell to it.

Does the darker colored piston mean the front cyl. Was running lean? Just don't wanna install this in my ski if it needs seals. Also with the cyl. At TDC should there be a small amount of side to side play between the piston and the cylinder wall?

The seal spooge is normal. The dark cyl is running hotter, open the top screw 1/4-1/2 turn or up the main one size.

The darker piston? I also wiped them down a bit when I opened it. Supposedly the motor has 15-20hrs on it.

Kevbo suggested richening up the front cylinder, I suggested leaning out the rear a bit.

A plug chop and proper tuning on the water is the only way to do it right though.

Hold the ski wide open for 15-20 seconds then hit the stop button while holding the throttle wide open.

Pull the plugs and visually inspect for color. Should be chocolate chip cookie brown.

Too white is lean, black is rich.

Read up on a leak down test. It is NOT hard to perform, and will tell you the condition on your crank seals, etc and show if you have an air leak. I can provide a complete kit for you if you need.

I think I'm gonna do a leakdown once the motor is reassembled just to be sure.
