Anything I need to watch for when installing my TBM Charging Flywheel into my 96 RN?

I haven't found any instructions so I thought I'd ask. Searched and didn't find anything too specific.

Make sure the crank is clean and the threads are clean.
Install flywheel, torque to recommended torque (guessing 70ftlbs)

It wouldn't hurt to use some valve lapping compound first to make sure you have a good fit between the crank and flywheel. Spend a few minutes lapping it on and the clean everything up and install it. You can most likely get away without doing it, but it is cheap insurance.

dont do this if the hub is alum. I did this to a MSD Charging flywheel and messed it up. the coils started rubbing the backside of the flywheel.

Maybe a dumb question but does the flywheel change the load of the engine enough to affect jetting?

you know, it shouldn't. But if you were right on the edge of needing to go up or down a size, then it may.... With any change you just need to check your adjustments and tuning.

How many hours did you lap it? Just a couple minutes of lapping shouldn't take off more than a few thousandths of material.

RAD states in their install instructions that the warranty is VOID if you lap it. :wavey:

Wonder why? I always thought/heard that it was good practice to give it a quick lap to ensure a good fit. My RAD is still running fine and it was lapped on. I'll continue to lap my flywheels on....... makes me feel good.

with a steel hub you can lap it and it really wont remove much material, with alum, it sands off like butter.

ok. mine is steel hubbed. It gave me some piece of mind to know that the flywheel actually fit the crank nose. I guess they can't tell people to lap it because then they would have to deal with over-lapping aluminum hubs.

i just made sure everything was clean when i installed mine and torqued to 75 ft lbs.

i have had issues where 3 out of maybe every 5 starts the starter gear or bendix will miss the wheel.... if i click the start button again it will engage though

wonder why this is happening? x2 ryder did it do the same for you or did i mess something up on the install?

More times than not that'll either be a bendix or starter issue rather than the flywheel. If the bendix is getting a little stiff or the starter doesn't spin up quickly enough sometimes it won't throw the gear far enough to engage the FW.

Could be worn bushings, missing bendix teeth, or missing washers or springs.
