Surfriding Intake grate selection

The jetdynamics will allow you (with the right approach) to the throw the ski sideways in the bowl on the lip doing a floater or on the roof of a hollow wave. Stock one just does not load that well.

tried it, hated it...tooo aggro....hooked way too hard and wont allow the boat to track staight if trying to surf a wave under minimal throttle

never ran a stocker on a SJ....but seems all my a/m hulls have worked better with them...

stick a mag pump above a stocker and you'll be amazed....

If your making power you gotta supply the pump with enough juice.... Stock grate might be fine on a 701cc surf ski, but it anit happening with a big cc motor if you want all the power out of your ski. You can cut the stuffer off your intake grate your running now, had one with the same setup.

I never had a regular pump,
my other is ski was 08 superjet ss865 and I had works 201 and tbm, and was barely making it. and when Pat Bogie did the water test he said my ski was starving for water,
and my Old superfreak also was starving for water so we had a custom intake too,

something funny must have been going on with the tbm cone,I dont think a 865 sucking water through a 201 would be running out of water, what was the prop pitch?

The adjustable one Thrust has looks like a neat idea for trying out different set ups . I just laid a XR tech and a R&D next to each other , they are very close to the same thing as far as overall shape.

I'm running a worx 201. No big motor...701 w/bolt on's. I like it. It keeps the pump loaded better than stock for sure,(especially in choppy water)

For big motors, maybe it's more important to select the proper intake grate.

For most of us, it comes down to personal preference. Some like it slippery...some like it tight.

There is a lot of good information in here......

Unfortunately I still don't know what to try.
I would like to try all of them... just don't want to buy all of them.

If you like to slide go stock, less hook up every direction . If you want to lock it down and have a more planted set up go with a big top loader style.

After lunch I will post pics of the Jet Dynamics & XR TEch next to each other.... Both are great intakes, I think the JD will be better with bigger cc setups... Less bars = more flow...

PICS after lunch
