300/440/550 intake grates

Hey everybody i have recently been looking at intake grates. i seem to like the look and idea of the grates they call a top loader on ebay.
any body have experience with them or advive on a new one??

Where and how do you ride. Makes a difference on which one you choose

I ride in smooth tho moderately ruff water I'm interested if a top loader really is affective in keeping the pump loaded in hard turns

I assume you have a 550? I run a top loader on my SJ and really like it. The draw back is when you lay off the gas, its like putting on the brakes. I had a PJS top loader on my 550 and didn't like it at all. Whenever I would do a tail stand or ride with the nose high out of the water, it would cavitate like crazy. Also, the 550 is not as powerful as the SJ so with the top loader on I really noticed the affect on top speed. I put a scoop grate back on it and like it much better. That being said, I have seen many guys run them on their 550s.

i have a mariner scoop grate ill sell you cheap

top loaders are nice for choppy water but i always stick to a scoop or deep scoop on the JS hulls
