Super Jet intalling new turf tricks tips suggestions to make it easy

I'm giving one of my SN's the fresh paint and turf treatment over my xmas holidays. Are you scuffing the fresh paint before applying contact cement? What are you doing to keep it from getting all over and removing excess? Any other kinda tricks advice ect do you have for a first timer? I have looked through alot of the build threads and it seems like most are just winging it. I'm planning on doing the rails and nose as well and maybe a custom chinpad.

scuff the turf as well! When using the DAP glue...less is more. Apply a thin layer of DAP to both ski and turf...let is chill for 10 min, put another thin coating and let it sit for a bit. You can heat the turf way more than you think and stretch it around curves and rails. After you apply a couple layers of DAP....be careful where you put it...it will stick!!! I have seen people use dowels to prevent the turf from sticking unintentionally when laying is out.

If you stick a piece down in the wrong spot you can reactivate the dap with more dap on a paint brush to get it back up.

be careful with the heat gun not to stretch the turf too far because it will shrink once cool and leave an ugly gap

two coats is plenty.

25 or 26mm padding makes your tray feel like a marshmellow!

Thanks everyone. Any tricks to keep from getting contact cement off of spots where you don't want it? I was thinking of using the green painters tape.

Quick question are you DAP'img the padding down than DAP'img the top of the padding and bottom of the turf?

The new hulls I see that need paint and turf are painted every where except where the turf will be installed, where the turf is going they sand and scuff.

definitly sand the areas that need to be turfed. use a head gun to "warm" the turf to mold it to contours. extra set of hands helping is always a plus. use DAP contact cement like said above 2 coats is plenty. i always use painters tape just of the boarder of where the turf meets the paint area... couple bucks in tape is great to stop any drips or oops areas on fresh paint. once the turf is down use a roller or mallet and push the turf down to relieve any air bubbles and promote strongest adhesion. take your time and you will see its fairly easy
