Interest in a replacement oem Yamaha handlepole section?

I was working on replacing my bendix and thought about my handlepole after bumping my head on it.

Would anyone be interested in a fiberglass (or carbon) replacement middle section for the Yamaha oem pole? A straighter piece, probably the same weight as oem, stock length but you could chop it down to whatever you want.

It's been proven you can J-B Weld/rivet an oem pole back together and it's strong, mine has been shortened twice (because I wanted to) and hasn't broken in over 5 years now.

Just wondering, it would be much cheaper than an aluminum pole, add on the X-metal new steering on top and for maybe $300 have a very nice setup to me.

Crammit build a nice center section for his white SJ. I thougth it was just wrapped at first. But he built it. I know he has a side business, maybe he would build more, it would be a good idea!

Yes I would. I happen to like the clean lines of the OEM pole over a lot of AM poles. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a RRP, but could never justify the $$$ for the type of riding I do.

He dosen't really have a side business he just sees something he wants to build and he builds it.Good luck getting him to build something for you though.

Yes I know about that I was referring to building ski parts.I had approached him several times about building me some carbon fiber stuff if I supplied the molds to make the parts with.He seems to have his hands quite full already.

grind the brackets down to bare metal, grind the gelcoat/paint off the center section down to FRP/whatever it is, apply J-B Weld liberally, put the pieces together and rivet them so they stay while the J-B sets up, bingo, solid connection.

Yeah, super solid. So solid that when I realized my pole was a little crooked, I also realized I can't undo it without cutting the pole and chiseling (sp?) it out.

Stronger? J-B is cheap.

You're right. I don't think most people realize it, but the rivets are only there to hold things in place until the adhesive cures. The problem with the OE joint is the primer used on the aluminum. The adhesive usually doesn't let go. The primer on the metal does and then the pole fails. The section I made is all carbon and is foam filled for extra rigidity. I also used a breather hose. Mine is a seamless design using braid instead of cloth. I really just made it because I could. The OE two piece/bonded design would be easier to make and have look good because you'd be able to gelcoat the halves easier for a better external finish with painting. Mine had to be cleared and required extensive prep work. I have a mold made for one in a slightly dog bone shape that would still use the OE cast pieces but would have better hood/finger clearance and look a bit more like the XFT. I'll put up some pics later if I think about it.
