Interest in a replacement oem Yamaha handlepole section?

Creative RE Purchasing
Cant agree with that from an engineering stand point.

you don't have to, that's why i said it was my opinion. I don't run a stock pole any longer anyways, so I guess I shouldn't even butt into the conversation. What do I know anyways? I'm just a semi-newbee hack. Only going on 3 years on an SJ. No sarcasm intended. Really, I don't know much about these things compared to others.

i didn't say anything about stronger, I just said why purchase JB if you have epoxy on the shelf. in my opinion the rivets give it the strength anyways. Just my opinion though.

The rivets don't give it strength, that's just it, the glue is where the real bond is IMO.

I can see from your POV that the epoxy works fine since the rivets are holding it, but IMO the rivets are just for letting it set properly and the glue is the bond.

Agree to disagree?

Back on topic, anyone else interested in something like this?

a friend of mine shortened his oem rn pole, but used aluminum rivets instead of ss rivets. the pole ripped right out of the socket on the first ride.

he re-did everything exactly the same, but used ss rivets and hasnt had a problem since.

so, id say the rivets do play a big part in the poles design/strength.

I've had aluminum rivets in mine for over 5 years, they do nothing if it's glued properly.

not sure about that...

I shortened one and epoxied back together...I didnt have any rivets but only had SS self tapping screws..they screwed in nice and tight, but worked themselves loose within 2-3 rides (glue was still tight)...after another ride or 2 it broke again..

I redid it with rivets and solid as a rock...

both times glued with west systems and filler beads...

West System....there's your problem, grind down to bare metal and down to bare FRP/whatever on the pole and use J-B Weld, it'll never come loose guaranteed.

I would say while the rivets or other hardware would not add strength to the setup if done 100% correctly there is often a flaw in most setups when re-assembled. I was a total newb when I put mine together and used 5200 but I also re-used the SS backing plates and installed it with SS bolts, washers and locknuts and it has held strong for the past 2 years. I have seen a pole that was epoxied back together and held in place with alum. rivets. The epoxy job was probably poorly prepped but it let go and sheared all of the rivets clean off.

They've been making carbon fiber replacement pole cores in Japan for sometime now and they come in a few different colors.

They are listed in the JetWave and Hot Products catalogs in Japan.

Dang that unfavorable exchange rate! I only used ss screws with some jb weld, so if the screws are gonna come loose, I'll definetely be finding out if the jb weld holds or not. I'm kinda hoping that it does come loose so I can redo it to make it straight again.

Just a heads up West System does not adhere to metal, not aluminum, not stainless, not steel, its not made for that applicationyou can encase anything that you want to in it but is does not adhere to metal at all. Most epoxies for metal contain some kind of alumimun powder as a binder.I have been working with this stuff long enough and have built enough crazy ass projects to know what I am talking about here.

Hmm makes me wonder what is wrong with the stock fiber glass anyway?

Do you just want bling factor Jett?
