Needles are probably worn. Replace them.
Correct me if I'm wrong...leaking N&S will cause super rich scenario (dribbling fuel and a stumbling engine) versus lean.

Yea it should. Unless for some reason you didnt realize your NS was leaking, and then you leaned out both cylinders because of what you thought was a rich condition, but really one carb had a leaky NS and the other cylinder was fine where it was. This is what happened to me recently, which is why I had one cylinder quite lean.

I didn't check the plug wires other than verifying I had spark on both. Coil was a refreshed one from JSS with new wires 2-3 seasons ago.

I would check them...... My first coil started going out at about that age. 3 years. Just need to rule it out.

I'll double check N/S condition and verify pop off again. Never seen a lean condition from a leaking needle. I haven't changed any carb settings from original setup so the lean isn't from changes. Reeds on way from JM.

My bad I thought i was posting in the thread with the video of the leaking carbs..

I was just reminded...A local rider had this same issue occur once. Stumped after checking everything ! It ended up being that he had to clean the carbs 3 to 4 times by a highly experienced ski mechanic before his lean condition cleared up on one cylinder. Double check and re-clean lean carb is suggested.

Mechanic tip of the day:

"I try to blow air through all the carb holes from inside the throttle bore outward, sometimes trash won't make it out unless you blow it back the way it came in."

Turned out to be reeds. I had one petal on the front carb that was mildly warped. The rest seemed ok, but these carbon reeds were at least 6 years old and had been changed from one engine to another. I replaced the whole set (VF2's). Fired up and was back to its old self today.

Thanks for input fellas and for the parts @JetManiac.

glad you figured it out, I can't sleep normal until my ski mystery is solved.

Might have spoke too soon. Ran great on test run...bout 10". Parked it. Mowed grass and met up with Mcdog. It started acting up about 15-20" into riding. Leaned out again on front. Checked plugs/spark. Initially only had one side sparking. Checked again and it was on both. Plugs are fresh. Only air leak could be front crank seal. Gonna pull tank, FW cover and FW to check, but highly doubt it. Leaning towards a failing coil now. It's 3-4 seasons old on total loss duty. Will see. It runs well at times so crossing fingers for easy fix with new OCD coil. In any case, was nice to get some tray time in.

Contemplating life and backflips with a brew...

Back to lean scenario on front cylinder.
- Carbs run through and checked.
- intake mani with new gaskets and reeds
- fresh plugs
- new coil with good spark bilat.

Moving on to pressure checking for air leak. Gonna inspect pulse line ports and squirt all mating surfaces with soapy water for bubble inspection. Still need to pull flywheel cover and check front seal for leak.

start swapping parts. if the fronts lean, switch the carbs front to back. see if it follows the carb or not. id rebuild the bottom end and check everything over versus risking a lean sieze.

Good idea. I'll flip carbs around and see what happens. Carbs checked out fine with pop off pressure and internals clean. I'm assuming air leak somewhere...

Yep and you'll know if it doesnt follow the carb. Is your pulse line Y'd or does each carb have one?
