Deutsch connectors are great. I used an authentic 6 pin for my stator wires and tried a 3 pair kit of cheap knock offs for the bilge pump and stop / start connectors. Honestly no noticeable difference in plastic or pin quality, the knock offs also came with some block off pins that would’ve been nice on the stator wires (5/6 pins used). Since the authentic ones didn’t come with block off pins, I just crimped on a short piece of wire to keep it sealed.
There’s 2 kinds of pins available, a round cylinder style and one that has fold over pins like spark plug terminals. I’m not buying the tool for the once in a blue moon I would need it. I buy the cylinder style, flux the wire, crimp it with a good set of regular crimps and then solder it. I haven’t had any issues on the ski or other applications I’ve used them this way. Always use a good bit of dielectric grease on the back, between the rubber grommet and pins, as well as in the pin area as well.
