Super Jet Is this a bad midshaft seal or something else????

Okay, after my trip out to Pismo this fall I noticed a lot of grease in my engine compartment between my motor and the bulkhead. It's down right nasty.

Before my trip to Pismo I did squirt a few pumps of grease into my midshaft......Is that grease pushing out past the seal?

I also thought about crank seal, but the ski doesn't act like it has a air leak and the seal looks pretty clean.

My only other thought was, is it possible the T9 lube I was using as a rust preventer somehow did this???

Check the underside of your coupler cover, should be covered in oil/gas mixture... Do a pressure test to know for sure, if you loose pressure spray soapy water on that crank seal and if it starts bubbling like a mofo that's your problem

I have seen grease push out past the front midshaft seal...You did "squirt a few pumps of grease" that can be alot of grease with now where to go but push out....

Yep, I did......I was thinking/hoping that's where it came from. Now just debating whether to replace the seals or just not grease it EVER AGAIN ! I actually had a little bit of grease push out the back seal for sure.

which exactly coupler do you have on the midshaft side? Some of the OEM couplers have that plastic plug in the middle. I've had that plug pop open and have all the grease that I put on the drive shaft splines pour into the engine compartment.

I have a OEM superjet coupler. I have never broken one yet so have a hard time spending the money to upgrade them.

was that thick grease you found in the hull or was it thin like oil ?

Ya know.....now that I think about it....the consistency of the grease is pretty similar to the back side of my trailer wheels when I over grease them and it pushes out the back of the wheel.

tipafew is that a black coupler or green ? the green ones had the plastic plug like oxnard is talking about...

It is a green one. I will check for the plug when I get home. Is it right in the middle of the coupler?
The coupler itself is pretty clean but the bottom of the midshaft housing is very black and nasty. If you look at the picture there is a heavy concentration that actually lines right up with the coupler though like it was flung right off the coupler.

I've seen green couplers have and not have the plug. Here are a couple I currently have for sale. These are both for the mid shaft side that fit the 94+ diameter mid shafts.

Those are pretty but that might wait until next winter when I do a little motor upgrade. I will tell you.....it's hard to know where to start and stop with the spending on a build.

Don't stop now Chad. You will thank me next winter when you upgrade!

I looked at it a little more last night......There were definite oil drips on the bottom of the cases.
The coupler does not have the black plug.
I am starting to wonder if I don't have a combination of factors contributing to this.....
