Is this a true 701? Valve cover and intake say 61x should I assume that the case is 61x too?

It must have had a different motor put in at some point, Probably an upgrade over a 650 which were less powerful, they almost look the same as the 61x case motor though.

Should I be looking for any markings on the bottom end or anywhere besides the ones that I posted that would be a give away of it being a 701

That motor is probably out of a wetjet because it looks gold from the picture. It may be worth pulling the exhaust to see if the manifold is a 701 or 6m6, it's surprising how much smaller the ports are on the 650 exhaust.

As others have said this is a very common swap into the 650 superjets as they drop in and are pretty cheap used. Most of the SN with 701 here in California are in the $2,000 asking price range. The 61X/61X single carb engine is less desirable that the 62T/61X twin carb 701 that was released in 1996 but is still a great upgrade for the 650.

So I did get the ski last night. Im still new to the jetski world besides going through a couple 650sx and realized they are garbage compared to my friends 2007 superjet. I was just trying to make sure the motor didn't have a 650 bottom end with a 701 top end. All the markings on the motor said 61x so I was happy to see that. Yes I wish I could have gotten the 62t/61x twin carb 701 but in my area they are either one exsistent or something I can't afford. I got lucky finding this so I jumped the gun. Figured out that someone bought the ski then sold it to a dealership, the owner I bought it from said the dealership changed the motor and put 700 stickers on the outside. Really confusing but I'm still pretty happy. Paid 2k for it which is fair

I would say you did great as they are crazy expensive here in California. Looks like a nice clean ski. I would check the compression, throw a genuine Mikuni carb kit in it with some fresh fuel and ride the heck out of it.

Not to thread jack but years ago I had a Kawi SXI Pro and was filling it up at the gas station when some guy (probably around 25 or so) comes up to me and starts talking about the ski, and how his buddy had one "just like it." Then tells me "yeah, he had a cam in it and everything".......... I didn't have the heart (or the time) to school him in everything jet ski, so I just rolled with it, said something like "that's cools man" and went on my merry way. HAHA

It is almost for sure a 701 from a WetJet being that gold color and the ebox is upside down compared to a SJ setup.
The power cables are coming out from the bottom and they come out the top in a SJ, but the warning sticker on the front is right side up. Also the start/stop ebox harness is longer than SJ with extra wires for gauge that are just hanging there.

As others said above, check exhaust manifold between the cylinders for 6m6 or 61x. Also cases are labeled in the casing right between flycover and the starter.
