Is this piston wear normal? Or too much

Hey all, looking at buying a used 701, new to buying used engines, so I’m just wondering if this wear on the pistons are normal, or will it need a rebuild? Engine is quite far from my location, will double check this weekend in person on its condition.

Considering the cylinder corrosion, you can bet it’s worn. It’s very unlikely that you will find one much better. Do you really care if it’s good, or are you just going to run it as is?

It’s so hard with used anything, but especially engines. You are really rolling the dice by running anything you didn’t have professionally assembled or assemble yourself. The likelihood of a used engine grenading, is higher than not. But that’s not to say you couldn’t run it for seasons with no issues. It’s much more worth it to tear down and refresh before installing it, than to take a chance of ruining the cases or cylinder and starting back at square 1.

I will say, it doesn’t look that bad though.
