I bought a PJS head for a good price, but it looks a bit pitted. I know from my automotive experience that this would NOT fly on a car. It appears almost "pitted" at the top of the cyl but that could be a property of the metal and perfectly normal. Does it need to be almost "glasslike" on these to get a proper seal with a copper HG? Obviously I will clean it up and make it as smooth as possible, but it still seems a bit rough.

Here are the pics. I can take closeups or zoom in if required.

Send the head to a shop like Group K and have them clean it up, well worth the money for a great head.

The pitting is from when an engine lost a bearing and bounced pieces thru it, not from bad gas or something like that.

I have seen heads like this on running motors - a 550 is most a monster power engine anyway so what little oyu owuld lose from the pitting is not all that much but would be better if it was cleaned up.
