Is this the biggest wave ever ridden on a Standup Ski?

There was a video back in the mid 90s called Jet Waves and Mac goes over to the North Shore of Hawaii and rides some big b1tches. Not sure if they were bigger, but he was on a Pro Tec built square nose and was wide open going down the face to outrun the break, lol.

I think both of them are nuts!

According to an article I read that interviewed Randy Laine that is the biggest wave ever surfed on a jet ski. He talked about wanting to go for a 100 footer. Damn I wish I could find it right now..should have book marked it. The article was centered more towards his expertise towing surfers and big wave rescues.

He talked about the problems involved with finding one and who he thought could survive riding monsters like that. He mentioned Joe kenney and Taylor Curtis as candidates.

I talked to Randy about the day this picture was taken. He said he was actually out at Todos Santos Island as part of a support crew for a bunch of tow surfers who were trying to break a world record for largest wave ever surfed. Randy rode his couch out to the island and towed his standup behind it on a safety sled. When he was on a break from his support duties, he jumped on his stand up and was just tooling around, not really intending to ride any big waves (because the day was all about the surfers) When that picture was taken, it just happened that no tow surfers were ready so Randy just went for it and dropped in. The rest is history. To my knowledge no one's ever ridden a larger wave on a standup so Randy's record stills stands. Think you have what it takes to break Randy's record? Maybe you do, but as Randy clearly put it, "Before you can break my record you first have to find a wave that breaks that big!" Randy has a point, I've been out to Todos Santos Island several times and the waves were never even close to that size. BTW that picture is about 10 years old. Randy is in his mid 60's now so he rode that wave when he was in his mid 50's!
