Little update. The whole point of this was to fix the bendix because the starter was spinning (2 months ago) but the engine wasn't.

So I've chased the new problem down to the starter. Cables are good.

Sucky part is that I siliconed the nose of the starter because I think that's where the water got in that caused the bendix to fail. So now I have to clean the silicone off.

I almost want it to be the starter. Cause if it works, I'm gonna set the whole thing on fire.

If the starter spins and the engine doesn't I wouldn't think it would be the starter, unless the gear on the starter is completely stripped.

if the starter spins i would make sure you are getting full voltage to it....it will just spin if it doesnt have enough power to spin fast enough to make the bendix sling out...

Hasn't spun, and it should. Gonna pull it another night. I'm pretty fed up.

Just edited my last post for clarification.

Swap I have a nice 64x box that is in excellent condition. I just opened it for the first time and stole the relay. You can have it if you want for shipping and maybe a few bucks to cover my efforts. Would be way bettet than tryin to fix that thing.

Stopped by my powdercoating shop this morning. I told the owner I wanted to get my ebox sand blasted.

He walked me in, turned on the machine, looked at me and said "If you do the work I don't have to charge you."

I had another cover that was a little crusty and I blasted it as well. I'll paint them tonight.

Huge thanks to Chris/ JetManiac for the suggestion on the ebox paint technique.

In other news... I still can't figure out what is wrong with my ski. I think its the ground cable. I pulled the starter and bolted up the cable that would usually come FROM the starter relay. I attached the opposite end to a battery, and touched a bare spot on the starter to the negative post on the battery. Starter Spins.

Then I clamped the Ground lead to the starter, and touched the other end to the battery. It seemed to work, but then stopped working.

So I dunno if i'm hitting a dead spot in the armature on the starter.... or if I have jankey cables...

Everything attached to the ebox is supposed to be JSS gear, but I bought it from Fiore and you can see from the corrosion that it was probably run in salt. I should have opened it up when I got it. Anyway, I'm debating about just buying all new cables from JSS or whoever...

So I went out to the garage, swapped the starter cable with the ground, and touched the case to the negative terminal and had the same intermittent results.

I'm calling it the starter. Ordering from JM now.

It runs!!! it runs!!!

Sooooooooo happy right now. I haven't heard it run since October I think. Having Brap withdrawals.

Got my JM refurb starter today, and two ebox gaskets.
Btw, two big thumbs up for the JM refurb starter. Really nice unit, complete with some instructions. I'm serious, it's really nice.

Anyway, I wasted no time and threw it all together today. Fresh & clean ebox. Fresh & clean starter. Honestly this was a blessing because:

A. The starter was going to die anyway. Better to die now than at the lake or while I was ON the water.
B. If I had never had the problem, I wouldn't have known about my Fiore'd up ebox.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Nope... That's 100% my bad. I asked if it was in good shape and he said yes, and he took 3 weeks to get it to me (loooong story) I just threw it in and rolled.

Might be my fault, but everyone I've talked to said that's the worst corrosion they've seen in a ebox and definitely from salt. And my skis have never seen salt since I've owned them. (First time will be end of April hopefully.)

Oh well, it's fixed and works. All worked out.

Man I'm in a good mood. :D
