Any of you other law abiding citizens ever been threatened with being hauled off to jail for not signing a mandatory court hearing on a citation?

Well it happened to me on a Pacific Power owned lake in Washington on a Wednesday afternoon. The ironic part was that I was approached for doing a bronco 300 feet OUTSIDE of the no-wake zone...hmmm

Any opinions...mandatory appearance in court week after next...

That is just so wrong. What do you think your chances are with getting out of it? What did they pull you over for? No Lanyard is that for real?

You just got a jarhead type that hates to see people having fun. Rig a fake looking one on there and tell them it was broken. Worth a try, good luck. I hate cops.

try explaining to a jury why you removed a factory installed saftey device when your ski gets away from you and kills someone.ive seen jacob ski over the past 10 years have two skis get away from him. one of his 750 got stuck full throttle finally by the time it hit shore jumped 15 ft on to the shore blew his motor and ruined the hull. id tell the judge you bought the ski like that and wasnt aware it had a lanyered.and install one and take pics with you to court and apolligize.theres a picture on this site last year when a guys ski got away jumped up and out of the water cleared one ski and landed on a trailer with a seadoo.messed it all up.

I realize that I removed the factory safety device and I understand they are just enforcing the law for which I will be appearing in court. However where is the rational when the law unnecessarily treats someone without respect for such a petty offense?

What lake? Personally, I have gone back to keeping the lanyand in working order, probably the cheapest insurance policy out there if riding on a crowded lake. If we are out where there is no worry, I leave it wraped aroung the bars. Remember this: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/21603

I would just ask them to reserve your old cell block # 726 so you will feel comfortable :ponder:

Refusing to sign a citation in any state generally is a misdemeanor. It's not that you're admitting guilt by signing it, you are just promising you will either pay the fine or contest it before the date they give you.

Your a criminal and should be put away...:deal:

Sorry to hear about that...but I don't think you 1985 JS440 had a lanyard switch :sneaky:

Ehhh, not using a factory safety device such as a lanyard is far from a petty offense if a cop catches you. I know in Texas you will get nailed with multiple tickets for not using it. If it does get away from you and damages other people's property, you are looking at gross negligence in court as well. I know friends that have had to pay 1000+ dollars in fines and they were banned from the lake completely. No joke around here.

As somone else already pointed out when you sign a citation, it is not an admission of guilt, only a promise to appear before the court.

If you refuse to sign, police can (and will) take you to jail where you will wait to see the judge. In a small town over the weekend...you might have to wait until Monday.

If you sign and don't show - an arrest warrant for "Failure to Appear" will be issued and then you'll owe the court another $150 for the FTA charge.
