Pete,

I'd like to help. We def. need to get support of the police this year. No close calls like last.

If we start early (read: now) maybe we can get the police and fire dept. on board. Can we include them in some events? Maybe relay races around two buoys...police vs. fire dept. on two Kawi 550's? Give them a taste of the sport.

I'm not sure how other's feel, but I wouldn't mind doing the event earlier when the weather is a bit warmer.

How do people feel about those couple ideas?

Doug

having it earlier may conflict with some of the other rides.... buoy thing great idea but in the surf it might be difficult, having fire department or ambulance there would cost money

i think the earliest you can drive on the beach is september 15th. so that is the earliest the rager could be.

unless you go legal with fire and police support. Then it would be warmer and would have HUGE crowds watching since the area it is held in is a major tourist area.

Pete, if you need any help or anything at all with this I am willing to help so just give me a shout. I'd like to be a part of getting it together. Looking forward to this ride again, it was a lot of fun last year.

 Thank you All ! In a week or so... I am going to orginize a little better and write down a list of people on this thread and find a date after reviewing the other freerides, and race dates, Nationals/havsu etc.
Then set a date and go down with to the town and see what kind of strings I can Pull !
I have the fire dept. on board already... that is my first angle.
If they can pull strings that is great. but its ride at our own risk
and any permit that is given on the beach needs Insurance...
the permit is like 30$... that is no biggie, but as soon as you
tell the insurance its in the water, with Jetskis, its like the highest
rate for insurance because of the drowning factor and whatnot.
I will see what I can doo. and I am going to handle
main event, sponsors and food...

I really wanted to turn this into a surf comp/freeride, but I think that it will cost 2 much money, i still have not lost hope on that... but its so much time and money for this stuff ! If I can get a permit and wavier relese then maybe do both !

I would be willing to go around to the local pwc stores to try and get some sponsors. Maybe helping out the police with some raffle money would get them on our side.

Good idea!! If the police know the larger the turnout the more profit for them, I think they would do whatever they can to help out.

Oh and I think I just might be able to get some good press and media coverage for it if its going to be big. :sneaky:

How cool would that be if it were televised :woot:

Good work Pete ! Yeah, getting the various municipal agencies to buy in is key. And when they benefit $$-wise...perhaps raise $$ toward a Kevlar vest or something like that will get their attention.

We should also setup a Donations container for the spectators to throw in some bucks if they like what they see. That might also help with the charity end of things.

Jersey Riders Info - off topic (pending legislation)

Guys, this is off topic to this thread...but it affects anyone that has has a PWC registered in NJ (and possibly registered out of state but operated in NJ waters).
Right now (last meeting was this past week, Feb.8th) the NJ State Legislature in Trenton is considering mandating mandatory liability insurance ($300,000 worth of coverage) for all boats including PWC with motors of 25 horsepower or more. The proposed bill would require having insurance and producing an insurance card upon demand by local or state marine police. The bill number is A1953 and currently resides with the Senate Committee for Transportation. It has already been passed in the House of Assembly. So it's halfway there. I'm sure most everybody already knows about the legislation they've been working on for mandatory helmet law on PWC in NJ. (Bill S2233) That's also well along. Anyway, the AWA is helping to lobby against S2233. If you want to stay up on this stuff and you should, here's the site. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/ If you write a letter to your local state assemblyman or senator, please make them intelligent.
