Guys, this is off topic to this thread...but it affects anyone that has has a PWC registered in NJ (and possibly registered out of state but operated in NJ waters).
Right now (last meeting was this past week, Feb.8th) the NJ State Legislature in Trenton is considering mandating mandatory liability insurance ($300,000 worth of coverage) for all boats including PWC with motors of 25 horsepower or more. The proposed bill would require having insurance and producing an insurance card upon demand by local or state marine police. The bill number is A1953 and currently resides with the Senate Committee for Transportation. It has already been passed in the House of Assembly. So it's halfway there. I'm sure most everybody already knows about the legislation they've been working on for mandatory helmet law on PWC in NJ. (Bill S2233) That's also well along. Anyway, the AWA is helping to lobby against S2233. If you want to stay up on this stuff and you should, here's the site. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/ If you write a letter to your local state assemblyman or senator, please make them intelligent.

If you don't give them a reason to show up it won't be a problem. I ride in the back bays in NJ during the week and the Police won't don't even bother stand up's if your not doing anything stupid. I rode by them a couple times with no reg numbers and no probs. That is the biggest thing with a ride like this, we want to try to not give anybody a reason to go on the beach and start checking every little detail.

ANT....agreed. I'm not talking about giving 'em a reason.....I personally never do. In my opinion and experience, the NJ State Police Marine Division are very cool. Been stopped a 'few' times over the years and never received a summons...just friendly conversation. I think they like the stand-up community.
But helmet laws would suck ! Also....start saving your money for insurance...the bill moved forward this week in the Senate...you get stopped and don't have insurance...it's an escort to shore and an immediate end to the day....plus throw in a couple hundred sheets. Read the proposed legislation.
