So even though this is clearly a boat and I’m a proud boat owner I will post this in the ski buildups thread. I’ll start off with the purpose of building this boat, and it is so that I can haul my ski, gas, and of course beer a couple miles to the island we ride surf off of. I acquired a jet mate about 6 months ago with the intent of using it for what I wanted. Unfortunately that one ended up being too far hacked up and I reluctantly sold it about as quick as I bought it. Lucky for me 6 months later a buddy hits me up and guess what he has 2 pretty clean jetmates he’s looking to unload on me. Which is where it all begins (not that amazing of a build but I wanna build anticipation and excitement).
I decided i’d Keep the one with the graphics, because it had the windshield and trim tabs/swim platform, thinking the trim tabs are gonna help plain the boat off better. Now the other one actually had a pretty mint engine bay and ended up going to my buddy. Mine on the other had had oil everywhere from a broken exhaust coupler and the motor also had no spark plugs and carbs. Also good to note the inside drains straight into the bilge where it holds all the water. I pretty much had no hope for the motor, but after hooking a battery up and in hacking all the wiring I was surprised the motor turned over when I hit the start button (140/140 both holes).
All I had to after that was bolt a carb up and she fired right up. Decided to clean it up and got it looking real good.
After it was running I decided to take it out and it ran good. The only issue I was having was it was just a stock 650 in a lunch box shaped boat. If you can imagine it was pretty slow and due to the shape of the boat it feel like you are moving fast in slow motion with all the water breaking against the hull from the front, sides and all the way to the back.
Fortunately for me after experience the slowness of a lunch box shaped boat a pjs exhaust pops up for sale that already been modified for the mate! Once I got that I already had a few parts laying around to throw at it. It got the pjs exhaust, pjs sbn44 manifold with a sbn 44, mariner high comp head, mariner intake grate (same as 650sx/x2), and a hooker 9/15 from a 750 we cut down for the 650 pump.
I don’t really have any footy, but I can say with all the mods if you get 3 people in the boat one in the front, middle, and back it’ll slash some buoys.
