why do you need padding on the top of your boot? all I care is that they don't wear out. All of the neoprene (dive-type) boots I have used wear out in a year or less.

Do the surf or heavy duty dive boots last?

i know some people like padding on the top so the footwells aka san francisco slippers dont bruise the top of your foot i dont use them so thats why i dont wear any shoes/booties etc...wrestling shoes pull your foot in so tight it makes your feet about half the size as normal..not good for swimming..plus they really dont look like they offer much protection so whats the point??..good turf is plenty grippy..and yes generally good surf booties last a while....i know the JP ones come apart fast..witha surf bootie there is no hard sole glued on to the bootie so there is less to come apart..plus you can actually feel your ski through your feet and i think that makes a big difference

I just got the new Waterpro Gauley's by Merrell. I don't have much ride time on them yet but so far I am a big fan. I've had great luck with Merrells in general so I imagine these are going to be some keepers....

I have 7mm dive boots for cold water winter surf and they have lasted but do not offer much ankle support like the JP race bootie or slippery boots. I need ankle support....I jump for height on a blaster...

I'm a rower, and I found these neoprene booties at my boathouse. They were sitting in the lost and found for a month, I just took them finally. Tried them out on my ski, and they work perfectly. No straps, laces, velcro or anything, its just a slip on. It goes up past my ankle, dosent get blown off. Retails for like $20.

I was going to suggest the Merrell Sandles....that's what I use...Never come off. Merrell shoes Are awsome!! I have their hiking shoes....Best shoes I've ever owned.

My wrestling shoes have paid for themselves over and over. I even wear them around at the office sometimes (j/k). I bought them when i used to wrestle in hs some 10 years ago. Lots of abuse...they are a best buy IMO...if you need shoes.

Unfortunately, riding the great lakes you don't have an option to NOT wear something on your feet or you would freeze.

Just a note: when we were in Pcola PETE found a used syringe on the beach. Don't want to step on that (unless you knew who used it and what was in it...of course...it could be good stuff):ugh2:


And wholly chit batman (jetboy) i would never pay that much for a sandel (i wear the same pair of chacos for past 6 years). I need something closed toes when i ride so i don't rip toes nails off again. ANd you don't always pay for quality.....then where would the deals be? Sometimes a "brand" name can increase a price by 50-200% the actual value.

Man, everything I see above sucks. Laces and water don't mix. Flimsy neoprene surf/dive boots suck. I currently use the new style Slipperys, which offer not one,but two layers to get 14 cubic yards of sand into. Where the hell are the old, zip up, hard sole JetPilot boots that came up the calf 6 inches? I'd pay a pretty penny for some in size 11. Annnnddddd I'm done.

I also used to have the Jet Pilot race bootie... till it almost fell apart after 2 -3 rides. It was ridiculous. The soles fell off in no time, then the velcro ripped in half. One horror story after another is going to keep me away from these things forever. The only thing they are good for is the little thin bootie for the winter time.

I just picked up my size 14 aiscs

I really where a size 13 but with that little bootie in there, it fills right in.

Thats all, and im one happy camper.

I've tried the JP's (crap) and gave up after 2 pairs.
Now I use these for cold weather:

They stay on great and the NRS shoe is the best freestyle/surf shoe I've tried so far. They both seems to last well. The NRS can be hard to get in and out of though...
They both provide excellent traction, support for your foot and are comfy to walk in. I walk my ski to my launch site, about ½ mile. I have 1½ season on the Seasofts and about 10 outings on the NRSs.

I'm switching to that I too think. I just rolled my ankle (last Friday) so bad I thought FOR SURE it was broke. I was just riding around flatwater subbin and crap and "POP"%^#^%$#@^!%#@

I just can't believe that JP would let those things out to the retailers. They must have tested them out to realize the soles are going to fall off in a few rides. I'm not a fan of JP.
