Hello,

I am looking to get a jet ski shipped to me. I have never done this before. I have been looking for freight quotes online (freightcenter.com ect). and I have ran into an issue:

The jetski will be crated

- When I use this website http://www.truckloadbroker.com/ClassDensity.asp and enter my weight and deminsions I get a "freight class" of about 100

- When they use the default system and say "jet ski" they get a freight class of 150.

The shipping cost doubles between the 100 class and the 150 class. I told them their default "jet ski" is probably assuming a sit down not stand up.

Any way to get around this? Do they have to know its a jet ski? What if I say its a motor or a household good? I have never heard of freight class before. How are you guys shipping skis?

My hull from NorCal to DFW was $150 but Steve from Trendsetters set it up.

I believe the class changes when it goes from a hull, to a hull with an engine (i.e. fuel hazard etc)

So far I have used

uship (ca to va) 400
airfreight (ca to va) 450
estes (tn to va 300)
estes (va to tn) 300
paf (Alaska to va) 600

every one worked out great. No problems
Those prices seem high, I've always used freightquote.com
My last hull from Cali to Alberta was only $327

*Edit... I've always used freight class 150. If you use a cheaper freight class and there's damages, good luck on having a claim go through

Im about to ship a JS440 from NC to CA and the buyer is getting about $600 quotes... Does that sound reasonable? I decided to latch onto this thread instead of starting a new one, but this information is almost 10 years old now! Whats the current shipping "get up" Who do you use?

That’s pretty darn cheap for having a ski shipped across the entire country.

I had a complete shipped from Florida to Cali.. couldn’t get any bites on Uship so went with freight Quote and picked it up at there hub... took about a week, was in plywood built box and was a little over $800 with 15k insurance... so $600 isn’t bad

Just shipped a RTR ski from OR to AZ with YRC, $275. I shipped a hull from AZ to MI with them as well and it was ~$250. They have a 24/7 help desk based in the US and customer service has been great. However, right now they are WAY behind and they were 10 days late delivering my ski, not real happy to say the least. So if time is not a huge factor they are cheap with good service, but backed up atm due to covid.

Anyone who's dealt with freight knows you get what you pay for. Do you want your ski late, damaged, or lost. With crap customer service and the run around when you try and get help? Go cheap.

YRC is extremely hit or miss. For me it’s been 50/50. They are late picking up and delivering EVERY time. Sometime by a day, sometimes by a week with no calls until they actually show up. I’ve been hit with extra charges a month after something ships, I’ve had Crates with forklift holes in them, and pallets that were completely trashed. They have terrible customer service as well. I would be skeptical using them again. I’d be willing to bet they have a class action lawsuit in their future.

I’ll never use YRC again. Had an hull shipped from Cali to FL for I think about $500 a few years back. Anyways, a week after I picked it up from them they tried to get me to pay them another $400 dollars. They called me weekly for a year and emailed. Haha, they said they weighed it and it was over what I said it was. I can’t remember the number but it was comical what they tried to say it actually weighed.

They do this to everyone. They told me that i weighed 2 shipments wrong. A complete hydrospace and a bare carbon hull on 2 separate pallets weighed ironically the same at 514lbs to the pound. Odd huh?
