Yami-Rider..Thanks for the interest in our motors. If you need too save the extra money up. You can send us your core and a deposit and i will start on your motor while you save the extra cash for the BB. If you think you will want a bigger motor later go with the BB the first time so you dont have to do this twice. Basically its about $1000 difference from the small motor to the BB. Also like N3vrSat1sfied said you can always throw a 4mm crank in the BB later to make an 828cc if u need more. Thanks again..

If you are wanting to save money there is a thread on here about boring and decking a 64x cylinder. Gets you a 771+ with the same port timing as the 61x at a fraction of the cost.

I hope I'm not derailing this thread, but on a similar thought,....what exactly is the difference between the "top end kit" vs the complete short block? I assume maybe JM/Blue do some work (porting?) to the crank as well and/or it's a "new/rebuilt" crank with the Short block. And the top end kit is only that,...a kit for your top end using your existing non modified crank?
Also,..on the 718 baby bore page is starts as a 718 for $1700,.....but by the end of the thread it's stating it's a 735??!!! Did I miss something? Or is it 718 for single carb and 735 for dual carb but same boring/porting besides that? --Total noob guess but I had to take a chance!
And to the OP,...great choice it would seem either way. I hear nothing but good things about the JM/Blue engines and plan to have the 781 in my ski ASAP. But apparently the 718/735 motor rips as well. either way it would seem any JM/Blue motor gives a noticeable difference compared to a stock 701 so you can't go wrong either way. But I agree if you are planning on eventually going to want the 781 (like me),...then it would make sense to wait and get that (like me!) If I planned on rocking the 735 for 2 or more years I might of decided go for the 735,..then upgrade again. But I figured it would be cheaper in the long run just to wait and do it once with th 781.
And if I come across more money in another year and want more power I can always just do the 4mm crank work to get the 828cc as mentioned above,..without having to drop more coin into a new motor.
Again,..sorry for hopping in and babbling but I have been going through the same dilemma for the past 2 months!

I didn't read your whole post cuz it was too long hah but when I looked into them the topend kit can fit in the stock case. The BB motor uses their own sleeves which are bigger and require to be bored out a bit to fit the sleeves. They also epoxy the cases and do any necessary porting. They don't sell them as a topend kit for the BB because they want to do it to make sure everything works right the first time. They do top notch work and make a killer motor. Everybody wants a bigger and bigger motor so when you go to resell to move up (assuming your a FW guy and need more power) the 781 will hold more value while you save up. Shouldn't bought mine when it was up OP. You could have had my 781 for about the price of the topend kit ;) just giving you chit. I'm sure they will get you a ripper forsure

PS 781 has ability to give more power later in the rode because you have two more bored left and can also add the stroker crank. Sorry now I have the long post ha

@CJ555 This is what Jetmaniac told me:

Does your small bore JM 718 motors have lower cases port work done to them?

Yes, almost same amount as BB.

The crank is replaced with new or rebuilt. Your choice.

As for size, the stock 61x can be bored to 84mm(754cc). I didn't read that forum you were talking about, but I assume they were just talking about bigger bore sizes. The 61x/61x (single carb) is a different motor package for less money. If I remember correctly, it's about $1500

The ported top end is the most bang for the buck and a big gain from stock and the largest gain after bpipe install. Many are happy with the power of our ported top end, but there is limit to increase in power just porting cylinder and modding sleeves.

Our complete motors feature extensive case modifications. Cases are epoxied in 3 areas for different reasons in each area. Porting is extensive in multiple areas and to match cylinder porting and sleeve mods. There is much more work involved in the cases than in the cylinders. BB cases are also machined for the larger sleeves.

The differences between 718 and 735 is a larger boze size, but is also usually accompanied by extra porting and mods by Blue. We can do the same work on either size.

Austin has built and maintained a ski for his friend using our BB781 so he is very familiar with our motors, but is considering his budget and trying to decide which is best for him.

Also as Stefan wrote above, you can upgrade the power of ported top end or either size motor by upgrading carbs, electrics, and exhaust later. We have quite a few aussies that have run Blue ported top end with PF pipe with good results. @kieran79

Yes I was riding a jetmaniac top end with a power factor dry pipe and I liked it but I think the b pipe was a better compliment to the motor
I then bought a 8mm dasa stroker and was disappointed with the power it made for the dollars spent
Then went back to a jetmaniac 780 bb motor and think it makes Simaler power to the dasa

For the dollars spent you can't beat the jetmaniac top end for power
