Surfriding Jetpilot A-10 vest

Anyone ride with jetpilot A-10 vest or any other non cga approved vests. I am looking to get a new vest but the non cga approved vests just look alot cooler and more comfortable.

Surf riding in a non-cga vest? I wouldn't do it, but to each their own, right? They sure do look cool though.

Yeah the burn vests look pretty cool, cant really find any info on there website about them. I like the Nitro Lite ( War Bird Color Way ) vest.

what do you need to know about them?

btw the nitro lite is none CGA approved

the nitro is awesome has the most padding on the market i believe and trust me its saved me a few times glad i wasn't wearing my non cga wake-board vest at the time

but like we will all tell you

chat to Zack he will look after you in this department

I wear the Jetpilot Chris O'Shea Signature Comp Jacket and its insanely comfy. Keeps me afloat just fine @160 lbs but if you were another 20+ pounds it would be questionable.

Poizen is right, the Nitro Lite is NON Coast Guard approved, felt very thin, and I wouldn't trust it to float me in the surf. I switched it out for the Coast Guard Approved Nitro vest and love it. Lots of padding, very light, cut well (not bulky and doesn't ride up), and floats me well (200lbs), but the sizing seemed to run a bit more snug than other vests I have used.

I also have a Helium Swat that I use. The Swat felt more robust/denser but also bulkier. Since I got the Nitro, I have not been using the Swat vest at all. That'll change in the winter when it gets colder and I need a bit more room for the wet suit.

Overall, you can't go wrong with the Nitro vest. They look really good in hand.

Give Zack a shout........he'll get you setup with the goods.

I have 2 heliums as well and I love them. The ones I use are USCG approved. They make NON-USCG vests that dont meet the buoyancy requirements, but I wouldnt touch them.

For life and legal purposes where I ride.

The colors that I have are very hard to find, but the above link gives you a start. They aren't as thin as the cheaper vests IMO.

It has side zips/buckles and I love that for hood tricks without snags. The vests don't ride up either.

I have the a-10 and I like it. I ride in the surf with it and I barley notice I have it on. I weigh 160 lb and it keeps me floating with no effort on my part. If I was knocked out it would not turn me over but most coast guard approved vests are not designed to flip you over. Only the bright orange ones with flotation only on the front are designed to flip you over. If you have a vest and there is any flotation in the back, by design it will not flip you over. The 1 time I rode in fresh water it did not float me as well due to the salt water making things more buoyant. It actually took me by surprise when I fell off trying to back flip a buddy ski and had to try and stay floating (almost freaked for a second when I started sinking). I only ride salt water where I live but if I rode fresh water more I would defiantly buy a vest that was more buoyant.

Sorry, but the A-10 is not all that great. I wakeskate all the time and this is what I prefer.

Non-coast guard approved- Billabong craftsman comp vest
Coast guard approved- Hyperlite Hatch side entry

Make sure to pick the right size for you. I got medium and it was actually small/medium, next size was large/xlarge. The medium is for girls or kids. I am waiting on the exchange. The vest looked great as far as fit, padding and materials

What vest did you get and what are your measurements. I am 5'10 160lbs and was thinking a medium would be fine

I have a A-10 and I do like it, but I only wear it when I am with others and in the river, it wont float me much at all. They also run small too

I got a Sterns V2 vest, it has side buckles, fits good, and isn't huge. I wear it in the surf all the time

I still like the old slippery pullovers. Nice and padded and alot of floatation. Jet pilot still makes em...Slippery doesn't.
