how beneficial is a pump swap, i can tell that a bpiped fx1 is a little much for it, but what kid of difference will it make? Will i have to use a different intake and ride plate? or does all that remain the same? Best pump to put in it? How much would it be for someone to install?
Wow, thats a lot of questions in one post LOL...
Yes a FX1 with a B-pipe will more than likely just punch holes (cavitate) in the water on a stock pump. Mine did, thats why I bought a hull with the swap done.
So, if you use a Kawi 650 pump you can keep all your stock plate etc. You just have to modify the pump cavity, which means you have to cut the tray, defoam, learn about fiberglass etc.... It takes a different midshaft bearing and other parts, and i think you have to do some tricky business with the steering, but its not terrible.
Many people have done it on here, there are threads.
If you use a Yamaha 144 (superjet) pump, you can buy (I think they're available) one of Tom21's premade pump cavitys, takes a lot of the guess work out of fitting the pump. But you'll still have to do all the (un)fun stuff mentioned above, tray, defoam etc.
You get to keep you midshaft with this one, once again, many people have done this. There are threads.
I doubt you could find anyone who would do all of this work... if so i'd would probably be between $500-$800 just in labor. Just a wild guess.
Plus pump parts etc. But, if you use the Tom21 cavity thing, you can use Superjet ride plates and I think intake grates, which is cool.
PM Tom, tell him i sent you, he'll laugh.
