FX-1 Joined the club!!! Now what

Hey Guy's,
Going to pick up my first FX1 thursday.:Banane01: 1995 completely stock unmolested ski. Already got my name on the list for a shreadmaster ride plate when production starts. Would really like to find an aftermarket intake grate and other than that pretty much leave it stock for a while. So where do I find an Intake Grate?

how beneficial is a pump swap, i can tell that a bpiped fx1 is a little much for it, but what kid of difference will it make? Will i have to use a different intake and ride plate? or does all that remain the same? Best pump to put in it? How much would it be for someone to install?

Wow, thats a lot of questions in one post LOL...

Yes a FX1 with a B-pipe will more than likely just punch holes (cavitate) in the water on a stock pump. Mine did, thats why I bought a hull with the swap done.

So, if you use a Kawi 650 pump you can keep all your stock plate etc. You just have to modify the pump cavity, which means you have to cut the tray, defoam, learn about fiberglass etc.... It takes a different midshaft bearing and other parts, and i think you have to do some tricky business with the steering, but its not terrible.
Many people have done it on here, there are threads.

If you use a Yamaha 144 (superjet) pump, you can buy (I think they're available) one of Tom21's premade pump cavitys, takes a lot of the guess work out of fitting the pump. But you'll still have to do all the (un)fun stuff mentioned above, tray, defoam etc.
You get to keep you midshaft with this one, once again, many people have done this. There are threads.

I doubt you could find anyone who would do all of this work... if so i'd would probably be between $500-$800 just in labor. Just a wild guess.
Plus pump parts etc. But, if you use the Tom21 cavity thing, you can use Superjet ride plates and I think intake grates, which is cool.

PM Tom, tell him i sent you, he'll laugh.

I just did a 650 pump swap and am using the x2 nozzle setup. Works with all the stock stuff. Just have to modify the pump mounts and pump cavity (which, as i found out, is no small task). Having done it, I would investigate the tom21 cavity if I were to do it again. Hope to have mine in the water soon for a test.

Toms set ups use superjet intake and factor sized fx ride plates .. ours is using the sj drive shaft and the x-metal spacer to put the pump back 2 inches

Rode my FX with a Factory Pipe and stock pump for 10 years and thought it was great. The pump is definitely too small but it's very, very ridable. The best mod ever to improve your capabilities is ride time! Winter is a good time for a pump project.
