Custom/Hybrid js 701 w/144 pump

starting up a summer build, while i ride my other build that i just finished today. I've only got two pieces so far, a js300 hull in great condition, and a 701 61x which needs to be rebuilt. A 144 pump and cavity mold are bought and on their way sometime this week.

body work:
This will be my first time doing fiberglass work, but i have a lot of plans for the hull. Fitting in the pump cavity is the only thing im worried about getting lined up. IM going to be doing custom footholds and sponsoons. Im not quite sure what i will do with the nose. I want it a bit rockered but ive never really seen a rockered js style hull, so if anyone has some pics, advice or links... id like to see them. Will probably be making a new hood which wonb't be quite as tall and either getting a superjet pole or a PFRacing pole.

Engine:
I got a 701 61x that needs to be rebuilt. Im considering getting a jetmaniac topend, but i also want a b-pipe, so im trying to figure out what will fit in the budget. I still need to test fit the 701 with a b pipe in the hull but since im going to be making a new hood i don't mind making a little bubble to accommodate it. *could somebody give the dimension for how far the b pipe stick out from the cylinder*. Either measure from the surface where the manifold mounts to the cylinder or just take a measurement to the spark plugs.

Will probably start cutting stuff up tomorrow and will take some pics. Waiting to cut the nose up though because i don't know what i want to do yet.

701 and the B pipe fit, the Tubbies are a necessity. Tom21's will fit with very little trimming. And plan on reinforcing your hood seal lip. Rear exhaust it while it's open. I can give you the B pipe measurements tomorrow.

yea, i would like to take your word that it fits, but a measurement would be nice. I just ordered the pump cavity from tom 21, maybe ill contact him again about tubbies. I was looking to make my own since i was going to cut and foam the nose, but maybe he has a scrap one i could buy to just sorta copy... and everything will be reinforced, i plan on putting one layer of 17oz and a thing layer of either carbon or glass in the engine bay. definitely doing a rear exhaust, which will be new to me. Any suggestions on a water box. or maybe just inline silencer?

Yea, Ive read that once or twice. I need to go back to a couple of those builds to see how they aligned everything. The noses I think are really different

Ill be up the shop tonight and get you measurements. I also have a TDR water box that i will measure up for you. Start thinking of what your going to do with the battery box when you lay things out, and what tank you are using can limit your posibilities.

I need to get a mid shaft and housing so I can figure out where the engine will be and I plan on using a cart tank. The tank from ski is being used in another project. I saw a build last might where the guy widened the engine compartment and hood. I'm thinking about doing it as well. When I get on a computer tonight I'll lay out all the hull ideas I have.

Ok from the plugs to the outside edge of the B pipe chamber is 10 1/2" and from the front plug to the forward edge if the Water box is 29".

yea, ill hopefully be making my uscomposites order in a week or so. i think a slightly modifed superfreak would work well. i might just cut out the entire nose of the ski and then pour the foam and shape it.

pump came in today from steve_pwc (thanks), looks brand new and was freshly rebuilt. Need a mid shaft and housing with coupler and rubber coupling, as well as a pump shoe and the rubber piece which seals the pump to pump shoe. Also waiting for the pump mold from tom21 before i start cutting out the pump from the js. There are extension on the js300 (It looks that way at least) which are about 2" or 2.5" I plan on cutting off the extensions plus 1-2". and then ill line everything up and see where i will want the new pump cavity to sit.
Im starting to change my mind about getting a factory b-pipe and getting the cylinders ported. I would rather make the hull exactly the way i want and not cut any corners (college students don't have a lot of money). I would still plan on milling the stock head, getting a fresh bore on the cylinders with pro-x pistons and maybe a coffman's pipe. ill see how money is when im done with the hull and have purchased the majority of items.

i plan on using aluminum blocks to mount everything to. so for things like the pump, gas tank, intake grate, ride plate, engine mount. How should i go about mounting these to the hull. Would just using a structural glue be best. Or would a resin/cabosil mix with layers of glass over the top be best. or combo of the two.

the hull was in good shape, not too pretty, but no damage or cracks anywhere. the handle pole mount didn't want to come off and the impeller doesn't want to come off the drive shaft so im going to have to cut out the drive shaft (with those things still attached, the exhaust outlet, and some dash panels it weighed about 114lbs on a bathroom scale). The hood, gunwales, and nose weigh in at 26lbs combined. and the driveshaft is probably 6 or 7 lbs at least.

took off the nose, and gunwales, pretty much done de-foaming now (pic doesn't show how far i got). tomorrow hopefully ill cut off the rails and start making some templates for sponsons and look at what i want to do with the nose. I have a pretty good idea of what i want to do. just need to see if it's possible. this weekend ill figure out what to order from uscomposites and make an order sunday night. will also be riding my 750/650 winter project for the first time and trying to dial it in.

did some more cutting tonight. I'm going to order a 9 liter kart tank tonight as well. Will probably get a brand new mid shaft housing from atlantic jetsports and find a used mid shaft with coupler somewhere on here.
cleaned up the nose a little and now need to look at how im going to rocker it:

nose 3.jpg
the hull extensions were 2.75" i took off the extensions and another .75" so in total 3.5" i wanted to take off more but im 195lbs and don't want to be too nose high. forgot to take a pic after cutting, but ill get one later most likely. i layed the pump on top and i think the fire wall might be in an ok spot. the pump will have to be 1-2" farther forward than it is in the picture. I would just take off all the ridges from the wall and reinforce it alot. mostly from the pump side.
