Super Jet Just defoamed the tray. What should I do next?

I want to know if I should cut 3" or so off the back? What is the best way? Any good threads to look at? What is going to be best to fill the tray back up with? Ping pong balls and foam? What type of foam is going best and not cost too much. Should I convert it into a flat deck or just put in foot holds? How do I add a trim lever to my 95 SJ? What is the fastest way to reinforce the hull? I just finished building an X2 which I did most of these mods to also, but I am looking for specific pro's and con's to the SJ to save myself time money and head ache. I have more time and man hours than I do money, but I have plans for the motor head pipe ect. Thanks, any comments appreciated.

I plan to defoam and fill with the pink foam this winter. I also want to install bob footholds and shorten 3 inches. I was told to do all the mods I plan on doing back there while the tray is out

damn I wanted that hull. I was planning on gettign it next week. I was gonna flat deck it.

Ping pong balls and styrene seems to be the number 1 choice around here when people repackl the tray.

edit; at least I think thats the hull that was for 50 bucks on craigslist where the dude cut out the exhaust tube?

Problem with styrene and ping pong balls is that there is no structural support.
You can use 2-part urethane foam but you way want to put a drain plug so water can get out once it's in.

Thanks Garret, I have already been watching your build! You are doing awesome and I may do something to the front like yours. Keep up the good work. I will be watching. I have hung out with you at pismo before. We had the oak bbq pit out 2 free rides ago. I think you were having some troubles with your head at that time. I like how you cut 3" off the back, and then reattached the rear pieces. Drain plugs are a must. What is the weight difference and cost between urethane and styrene. Also how much strength is necesarry vs weight loss. Why not use ping pong balls with urethane. Let me know when you come up this way, we'll go ride. I going out on sun.

Sparkplug, no my friend gave me this ski complete with a non running motor. Its a different one sorry. How much work to make a ski into a flat deck. What are the pros and cons.

turned out to be a bad exhaust gasket. I have a 62t cylinder on that ski at pismo with a 61x exhaust and i had a 61x exhaust gasket. THe motor ended up frying the gasket allowing exhaust to push back through the manifold preventing water circulation for cooling.

I'll be running a blend of styrne and urethan in my ski. try to minimize the ability for foam saturation while still allowing some degree of floataion.
you could run ping pong balls and urethane. urethane cures pretty solid and is nice for tray support.

I'm hoping to come up in october i guess there is typically a big event around that time. send me your contact info.

flat deck is all personal preference. you'd have to cut your gunwals down flush with the tray deck, then glass it in flat. you'd have to relocate your exhaust tub a bit lower on the bulk head size so there is no conflict there.
benefits are more tray space to move around, down side is you have no where to feel locked in unless you mount some foot straps. people have also said they can be harder to climb up on when it's a flat deck, but also heard that if you mount from the side rather than the back then you'll be in good shape.

good luck.
