300/440/550 Just picked up my first ski..... 1990 650sx!

Just picked up this ski last weekend. This is my first ski, my buddys and I thought it looked like alot of fun so we bought a few and here it goes. Another toy to take up all my free time.

My question is what are some great sites that I can buy some parts with confidence...? I am looking for a nice pipe, head, and a sbn44. A extended ride plate with a new grate and of course some wider handle bars. Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Not very concerned with top speed, I would really like to boost the low end grunt and snap! Any ideas how to achieve this with a 650sx?

Thanx,

Hello fellow 650,,,, as many will tell you on this site ..DO NOT PUT TO MUCH MONEY INTO IT.... I am glad they did because it is so true. You do not want to sink to much cash into it because your going to want more later. The 650 is my first and only ski, its my training ski for sure. If I wasn't going to give it my wife I probably would have sold it in a couple of months to get a 750 or SJ.

I already added a dual carb to it but it already came with a ride plate a milled head. I am adding an exhaust to it so it can sound cool for the wifey but then it ends... QWife told me if I stick with Skiing for 10 months I can get a new SJ.

As for parts your best bet is just looking at for sales in X-h2o and ebay.

welcome to the sport, you will love it. learn to ride & then upgrade to a better platform to throw your money at.

An SBN 44 and pipe modification will wake up the ski alot. extended ride plate is nice to. I wouldn't do any more than that. You can find tons of threads on the pipe modification & carb jet specs on this site or PWCtoday.com.

I have bought from; Dale @ Dales jet sports, gordon at pacific jet sports, john @ Jetskihaven. All were very helpfull & I was very happy with all of my purchases.

get out & ride

Thanks for the replies guys... I know the ski is old and I am not expecting to work wonders with it. Just put a lil more power into it and make it fun! That way when I upgrade to a SXR my lady will have something fun to ride with me! I have only ridden it once last week and it was a blast ! I am trying to get some pictures up because i know when i am on these forums words are boring, pictures are much more fun. Thanks again for the help....

like other said, don't sink too much into it.

a pipe would open her up the most, but is also one of the costly mods to do.
check to see what condition your impeller is in would be step 1.

I think they modify the stock pipe by adding an inlet on the stinger & restricting the stock inlet to dry out the chamber. I've seen threads on it but never done it so I don't know if it works. If it is a feasable mod it would be cheaper than a couple hun on an a/m pipe.
Do some searching and find out what is the best option for you, and your budget :).

Like sykal said, def check the prop as they wear & get beat up.
