This year some things changed without notice to me until about 3 weeks ago. Volusia County in a way to generate revenue has decided to charge people to get on beach ($10) per vehicle during January. January has always been free access and it's part of the reason I did the event at this time. I had a lawyer look into and beg and plead to have the fees lifted during the freeride. They would not work with me at all. I know how much this sucks for everyone and how it will slow beach access and limit how we access the beach. All I can ask is that you understand that it's completely out of my hands and I was left with little or no time to even fight the new increased fees. My truck will be able to be used to get skis on and off the beach if anyone needs.
I really hope this doesn't kill the freeride event, but I would totally understand if people did not want to pay essentially 2-3 times what they had paid in years past to access the beach.
These fees have nothing to do with registration fees that I get to run and pay for all the permits, insurance and beach patrol for their services. This event is very expensive to put on, so please don't take it out on me and try to ride without registering. I apologize for not letting you know sooner, but I was holding out to see if I could work some kind of deal with them. I have exhausted all my efforts at this point and we are stuck with them. Also, please do not take it on beach patrol, they have nothing to do with the fees. It's a completely different department. Sorry for the issues and I hope we can still make this a great ride where everyone has fun. Thanks for understanding - Nick
