Damn that flywheel cover is sweet!! Care to share how you did it?

I started by using paint stripper because I was going to polish the whole thing. After finding out how porous the aluminum was, I decided it would be too much trouble to polish the whole thing, especially the area where the bolts go. So I decided to do a two tone on it. I polished the center part- I started with 220 grit on the DA, then went wet with 320, then 500, then 1000, then 2000. I finished it with metal polish.

Then I taped a line around where I polished and painted it. To add a little more detail to it, I cut some "760" decals out of metallic silver, so it looks like it is etched into the cover.

I am still waiting on some parts for the 760, so I am going to drop in a 62t (Raider) 701 for right now. I read that Factory Pipe recommends stock jetting for their pipe, so I bet that will be close with my Wetjet pipe. I may go up one jet size to be safe because I wont be using dual cooling. But the prop I have wont load the engine as much as the stock Raider prop, so the stock jetting may be fine.

And I guess I will be a temporary poser, because I will be putting on my "760" timing cover :)

I made a little progress today. I turfed the tray ,except for the piece below the dash. I have to wait until I get the pipe in to see if I will have to move the ebox holes. I also got the Watcon hood seal installed.

The only seam on the sides are where the precut Hydroturf kit had one. I traced the side pieces on a solid piece of turf and added a little turf to go in the holds. I'd rather have the seam on the top than in the holds. It took a little heat and bad language, but it worked out. I will be doing the rails in black turf, and the nose in gray.

I modified the plastic pole cover to work on the square...

And you can see my hood hooks working in the stock location...

The carbs for this 701 have 130/120 for the main jets, and 67.5 for the pilots. Should I up these to what FP recommends for a 61x/62t? They say use stock jetting on this engine in a Raider, but its obviously not in a Raider anymore :) I dont know how different the load on the engine will be with this hull and the stock impeller.

Anyone have any ideas?

I just got back started on this project- way too many irons in the fire. I got the 62t installed because I havent finished building the 760 (waiting on porting). I have also given up on the Westcoast pipe in favor of a B1 Mod pipe. I am in St. Louis for the weekend for a ballgame, but my pipe is in transit an should be at my house soon. I got all the gas lines swapped out and rebuilt the fuel pump. I actually got everything installed and was hooking up the battery (to verify compression) when I realized I didnt have a ground cable.

I will definitely be starting with the carb settings that FP recommends for a Raider. If anything the lesser load on the engine should make the jetting safer.

Things left to do:
-install Factory B1 mod pipe (melt fuel tank for clearance and modify manifold for 62t 10mm bolts)
-plumb primer lines into breather cover
-install bilge pumps and rotary switch
-hull fittings (bilge, bypass)
-swap out 6m6 CDI for a 61x
-turf under switch panel
-cut graphics and install

I got my primer lines installed in the stock SJ F/A baseplate. I did this way because I didnt want to remove the choke plates:

1/16" pilot/jet hole:

I increased the hole size to just a little smaller than the OD of the hose. Friction is holding the hose in:

Lines come together to the plunger:

All of the fuel lines are installed. I also changed out the stock fuel filter for a Fram that fit in the stock rubber holder. You can also see the lightweight battery:

Plunger and bilge rotary switch installed:

I ordered some Timeserts from Fastenal earlier this week and was told they would be here today. Well I get a call today and they tell me they cant get them because the Mfg. is out. So I bought some Helicoil type inserts instead. I was a little worried because the 8mm bolts fit a little loose in the inserts, but they torqued down just fine. It took some beating to get the chamber in; and its nearly impossible to get the chamber in the coupler while also getting the rubber mount on the hole. I also used a torch to melt the tank to dent it for the pipe (dont worry, the tank was empty).

I got the water lines hooked up and it fired right up. It idles perfectly- I will have to get it on the water to see what it will do. I still have to turf the dash and cut some registration numbers. I also have to decide what I am going to do about the flame arrestor. I am either going to have to go aftermarket or modify the hose on the hood. The hood will not even close with the lid on the FA.

Will there be enough airflow if I block off one of the hoses?

damn nice square. I luv simple paint schemes rather than the busy body jobs on the factory riders ski's. I've had troube before with blocking off one breather hose. It may be fine since the square hood breathes pretty well, but who know till you try it. Real clean job from start to finish.

It has been a while since I updated this thread. I got the B1 pipe installed last year and the stock jetting was spot on. This is a Raider engine and the jetting specs from FP for a Raider are stock jets; the only adjustment being in the screws. This thing really rips. This pipe along with the 62t engine gives it a good balance of bottom end top end. WOT on this thing with no handling mods is down right scary.

And I didnt like the idea of this thing not having a rev limiter since it was built for the surf. So I stuck in a stock 6m6 CDI. Whatever prop is in this thing works really well with the 6500rmp rev limiter (stock 701 limiter is 7100RPM). I have never put a tach on it though.

If your not hitting the rev limiter at 6500. Your prop is way to big and you are losing all kinds of potential power.....Im running this same set up with a pro tec head 35 cc domes and a 13/17 concord and im really happy with it................What happen with the 760? How did it work?
