Just bought a Kawa 300 and never had a kawa before.
So when i try to start it only the starter spinns and if i remove sparkplug (no compression) the crank also spinns.
How does it work on a kawa is there a bendix somwhere that just need love or what?
And do i need to pull the "huge" engine to fix my problem ?

Thanks Jimmy sweden

The 300 uses a one way starter clutch system on the back of the motor. If you look, you will see a dipstick. It is behind that cover. The starter spins a small gear which in turns spins the larger one way clutch gear which rides on the crank. It is not a huge job to pull the motor and mess with. The driveshaft coupler actually tightens this gear onto the taper fit on the crank. When you re-assemble it, you need to make sure the coupler is tight or the gear will slip on the crank. Are you seeing the piston move up & down in the cylinder?

If the starter turns the motor over when the plug is removed, but not when its installed, either the one way clutch is toast or its loose on the crank. The clutch uses a tapered fit & pressure from the coupler to grab & spin the crank. There is no key or splines on it. When you look at it, the clutch should spin one way freely, and lock up in the other.

Yeah it lock up for a short while then it just spinns

Hi Jiig you will have to pull the motor out and take the back cover off. You will need to take the coupler off and then as mentioned one of two things could be wrong. If the starter bendix is loose on the taper then you may be able to lap the taper and get it to tighten up. A workshop can do this pretty easily. If you find that the bendix hasn't been spinning on the taper then it must be rooted inside and they can be a real c##t to get off you will need a nice puller and be carefull with the threads in the bendix they are really short!!
