Kawasaki 650sx 61.3 mph. Noob can't ride

If that's one of my old race engines...you bet it'll be fast. Looks like the one I helped build for Emmett Hood for the Busch Cup days here in Florida, between his dad and I we really had some exciting engines combinations that were pretty scary to ride. I don't think we machined the finger ports in the 650 cylinders, but did slot the boost port and machined boost windows in the piston skirts, this is what he's talking about...
The XIR Kawasaki that we built for Emmett to race in 785 pro, was a +2mm stroker w/ MRD fuel injection. What a job to learn that fuel injection, when we did get it right, I laughed at carbs for a while in 785cc runabout racing!

Might be one of yours....any special marking to identify? I've never pulled the head so the cylinder comment was from what the seller told me. I can say this is one mean motor that makes sick power...It revs so fast and high I'm waiting for a rod to come flying out.

Ok.... everyone is thinking it, but I am going to come on out and say it..... 60+ on a 650sx? I'd need a video and a gps picture to belive that, sorry. haha

X2! 60+, now ur just being silly! But as for the wobble, bouncing, and tracking issues....Thats just how the 650 hull rides ! I have one with a ton of mods that my lady rides, and its just a fun, loose hull.... If you wanna fix the ride, i dont know why I havn't seen someone say it before this post but.... Swoop up a e-bay special extended old school skegged ride plate...! With your height and weight you need that extra length and then some on your ride plate, and while your at it get one with skeggs, will make that tracking a tad bit easier when ur a$$ is hanging off the back of the ski at full pull runs. IMO.

Dual 38 mm carbs ?? makes me think a little. I wonder how fast it would go if the engine builder would have used 44's.

Yeah thats my old race ski, my friend found this old thread and told me about it. You have any pictures of the hull?

Hey Emmett,
Come by the shop when your out and about!
Bring your dad too! You need to come to see the secret room...

Way back then, Super BN's were just coming out and we didn't like them at first...The BN 44 were too fussy as you know they are 3 screw carbs and little harder to tune and especially on the smaller 650 engine, in later years on the 750 small pin engines we ran SBN 44's in the stadups, then changed to the MRD fuel injection in the pro mod 785 class.

Mid 60's is good for an 800 SXR and it has more displacement with a bigger stroke and bigger bore. Bigger reed cages and better reed cage placement. Most run much much bigger carbs and the power out put of the more modern exhaust systems is a big plus.

You can set up a dry piped limited with stock carbs and get into the upper 50's range. That motor may have started out a 650 but I doubt it is in the 650cc range now......

Ive seen Super Stock 550's go 55 mph back in the day on the radar gun. Why couldnt this go 61? Its not impossible...

Supertune, will it run 60?
Yes, very close, it's the hit off the line to get to the 1st turn as well. We were the 1st Kawasaki 650SX to ever win a Bud national tour race, only 550's mods dominated then.

Maybe your GPS was in km/h not mph ? Then it's make sence - 63 kmh = 42 mph
Too bad you weren't around then...because you don't have a clue.

It is possible, as we did it, too bad for me as I had a hard drive fail 2 years ago and lost everything from the past (stupid me with computers/should of had a backup drive) I did have all of the Stalker radar acceleration graphs from back then on that drive (DOS programs)

You MUST be young... Maybe one day you'll know better than to make a statement like that, again, no clue!
With age, Maybe you'll be blessed with WISDOM.

Stock Kawasaki 650 engines are 76mm bore and 70mm stroke comes out to 635cc.
We built 2 or 3 of these engines.
We used a custom Falicon Crankshaft +2mm billet stroker 'T BONE' crank (72mm) and were bored 1mm over (77mm) this came out to 670cc.
