Kawasaki announces SXX-160... what do we think!?

The thing about the 2024 SXR that makes me laugh is the advertising "Powerful and Light Weight". 550 lbs is NOT light weight. That's 150lbs more than a two seater for God's sake.

I do think that SXX fixed steer is pretty cool looking though, not gonna lie.
Oh yeah. I got one and its heavy, but the weight number doesn't quite tell the complete story. I don't think I'm breaking any news by saying it feels much more nimble at speed. Similarly the Superjet is about 400 pounds and feels much closer to an older ski because the weight is distributed in such a way to make it playful.

I'm intrigued by the SXX, perhaps if there is a ride along day with one of the dealers near me I'll check it out, but I'm not throwing money down for it like I did an SXR.

why they dont make an real X2 with an single seat ? The Hood Kit / fixed steering you can buy from unlimited Japan since 2017 so nothing new here looks same but where to buy an real conversion kit for the tray ??? to convert to an real x2 somebody know ?

Kawasaki USA announced the release of a new standup model, the SXX-160! Its a fixed steer stand up, but no mini center seat like the X2. I am excited to see it but it doesn't get me too spun up compared to the some of the leaked photos of the new SXR thats on its way. Check out their post on IG.

So what do you guys think about it?
I think it's cool to see Kawasaki acknowledge that this fixed steer ski is something that people want. Surely some traditional X2 guys will miss the seat, but regardless its better than nothing and just having the same "stale" lineup year after year. It would be fun to take this thing for a rip and see how it rides!

I don't think Kawasaki is trying to hide anything about the SXR, either. Their stock hull does not perform well in the GP ski class, so they use the Hyperion hull by VK composites to remain competitive. This hull is available to anyone to purchase. Yes, it would be cool to see Kawasaki slim down the production SXR but I'd be surprised if it happens. It's not like we are seeing a one-off custom hull being tested, and in fact we'd probably not see much of anything until it was announced/released like last time if that was the case. Using the same hull for the SXR and SXX makes too much sense from a manufacturing standpoint, whether or not we as consumers like it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a smaller SXR in a better handling hull, but I don't think the use of the Hyperion hull on the race team will translate to a change in the production lineup.

Honestly a lot of people including me have flat decked their X2's or otherwise removed the seat on their skis anyway , I see this as more along the lines of a fixed steer Superjet , I do think it would be cool if someone cam out with a seat kit for this though.

It's probably way cheaper than buying a new Superjet and a fixed steer hood for it.

Maybe they could bolt a seat in at the front and through the tow loop fitting in the rear and 5200 it into the tray area , just an idea .

Kawasaki does things differently for sure , when I went to Kawasaki technical school at the Atlanta warehouse , Walter told us that most of the employees in the warehouse are women , they don't know a bolt from an air filter all they know is to pick a part from row 13 bin 152 .

They don't want people that know anything about powersports, engines etc working there.

Boeing does the same thing with their manufacturing help, I think all big corps do. Is the labor cheap because its dumb? Or is it dumb because the companies don't pay much?

I was born and raised in Lincoln, NE and worked at the Kawasaki factory for 3 years welding Mule and quad frames. This is where all Jetski models are made. Even the Japan only models are made there and then shipped to Japan. They make the hulls in Lincoln, also make a lot of parts, and then the rest of the parts come in boxes from Japan. All the engines are assembled at another Kawi plant in Maryville, Missouri.

3000 employees work at this factory in Lincoln. I know how this corporation thinks. They HATE change, dont care about employees and will milk the crap out of everything and everyone till there is nothing left.
We had to do our calisthenics every morning before work like good little Japanese men...lol But hey, it was better than working. :)
The boss/foremen would run around with stop watches timing everything. Just when you get a job down, they will add more work at your station. They would tell these temps(employees from temporary work agencies) that if they work hard and fast, show up on time, they can become a full fledged Kawasaki employee(with the best benefits I've ever seen from any company). But that is just a pipe dream and will NEVER happen no matter how hard and faithful you are. They chew you up and spit you out, then get someone new and tell him the same pipe dream..

When our line would run out of a part and we had to shut down, they would send us to help assemble on the Jetski line. The Jetski line always needed help because they only hired through temporary companies and got unreliable people. I mean they would hire druggy scumbags that would only last 1 day. Pitiful, just pitiful... haha
