Those old skis might be slow and crude by today's standards, but I'm sure that first JS400 looked fantastic compared to anything else you could do at the lake in 1975, and a whole lot more fun. The films are corny and dated, but you can still see why the whole phenom took off. Frankly, watching those makes me really want a standup, even now.
