Kawasaki Sxr or Yamaha Super Jet??

seems like everyone has been talking about a old SJ. the new 08-10 models have a redesigned hull for more race style hookup and turn, and they have been doing well in the races. its still surfrideable so keep that in mind. the SXR is a race boat, period. it is not a nible playful feeling ski, its more like a sitdown in how it sticks to the water. surf riding is extra difficult because it just loves to bury the nose down the face. i can assue your not a big guy considering a 650 pulled you well so your not going to want the extra wide and bulky feeling boat that the sxr is. reliability of the srx and superjet is debateable, stuff will break, but they are both very good models of watercraft. its the old kawis that have the issues.
so i think you will be happier with a superjet.
forget about flatwater, get in the surf and stay there!

Your body weight will also be a factor. If your heavy an sxr may fit the bill better. I am new to standups as well. I have been battling my superjet learning to ride. Last night I tried an sxr and got up and rode right away. It is much easier to ride and more stable. That being said, The superjet seems a little bit wilder to ride. That will come in handy once you get to freestyling. It is a more "flickable" boat. In the long run I think the Superjet will be more enjoyable because it will be more of a challenge!

Buy both and you'll have the best of both worlds!

YEa thats a great point about the weight. I mean i am about 185 lbs 6 feet so would the Sj be to short for me ?? Yea i do go surfing a lot so i think have the Sj would be better to take in the shore break.

Yeep he is on SJ.
Before you buy anything try to ride each one ( if possible )

If you surf and you want to ride in the surf, an SJ is probably what you want.

The SXR is a great rec/race boat and is a decent freeride boat once you get it set up.

Even new SJ is a sub par race platform, a great rec platform, and a good freeride boat...(with some work it can be a great freeride boat)

We should get you in the water down in Oceanside some time. There are guys that we ride with on both...

My 09 freeride boat is for sale...but that is probably not what you are looking for at this point.

Always glad to see someone new that wants to ride in the surf!

All I got to say is wow and props to the Gen II, 2008+ superjets. Finally made the plunge and bought one. Low end and mid range power, light weight, and grips the water like crazy. If I had to... the only con in comparison to the 800 is the smaller tray size and lack of top end power. But who need top end speed unless racing.

Will also note. I came from a highly modded 750 SXI and ride my friends 800sxr all the time with prowatercraft tubbies. Glad I did not get the 800. We lake ride in AZ only.

Both the 08+ SJ and SXR are great race skis for stock/lites class racing but the SJ is also fun in the surf and playing around. In your case, 08+ SJ FTW

I'll second the 08+ SJ. Rides on rails in the corners and is fun to jump too.

I have ridden and owned both. Either one can be great depending on how you set it up. Original post said you want to race than I would go SXR.
