SO I'm putting my 61x/62t back together and noticed my stock metal reeds are bent and wrinkled a bit. I have a kawi 750 small pin that threw a rod, but the reeds are like new. I checked them out and they bolt right up. I'm running dual 44's on an R&D intake with a spacer. The reeds out of the kawi are single stage fiberglass. Any reason why I shouldn't run them?

i found out the ports in the cages are larger - so they will flow more volume. beefed one up today cutting but did manage to get one good one done. metal blade was definitely better than the grinder.

Anybody have a guess as to what type of gains could be had? I'll fire up the bench grinder if anyone has any first hand experience

On an unported cylinder and unported case, I would think modifying the cases to accept a 750 reed will not give you much. However, on the larger bores, the larger reeds should provide the extra air flow required.

On a side note... I read a lot about 750 kawi reed mod a while back and it sounded like a great performance gain for big engines. However, it seems like most reputable engine makers are still utilizing aftermarket reeds based on the 62t reeds even when making billet cases. That kinda leads me to believe that aftermarket 62t reeds are more than adequate. I could have my facts mixed up but that's my understanding.

I have been told by Paul Lehr not to fill in finger ports and not to use reed stuffers....so I don't.

A motor I recently purchased had the finger ports filled in (the only epoxy on the motor not done by Paul...and Paul told the previous owner not to do it but he did it anyway...and obviously not properly) and they let loose and aided in the early demise of my 8mm stroker crank bearings.
