Kawi power?

Does anyone actually run 750/800 kawi engines in any of the aftermarket hulls? I'm kind of a newb with the a/m ski stuff. I have a nice 750 sxi with a well built motor in it but am saving for a bob/rickter/backie chan in the future. Will I be able to use my current motor? I have a spare stock 750 motor that would go in the sxi if I can use my built one for the a/m ski. Pros/cons?? Thanks

Kawi drivetrains are not as popular in the A/M hulls, but there are still options. The hulls off the top of my head that are kawi compatible are some EMEs, some WDKs, Trinity Composites, and I believe you can get an aquabot setup for kawi.

Many people are hardcore yamaha on this site, but kawi motors can make veryyyy good power. I think the selection of kawasaki pumps is what mostly holds people back from going with a kawi.

Ill let you know once im done with it but for now this will keep your hopes up

Pro : you have the motor and all the stuff already

you can just drill hole for yamaha motor mounts later

You can set the motor forward/set back (like i did im running a setback pump )

Very nice tigerbot. Aquabot hull I'm assuming.? What pump are you gonna run? Stroker 800sxr?

I just picked up and EME Aerial 8 and I'll be running a fully ported Kawi 750 with Vforce reeds and dual 44mm Blackjacks. I should have a build thread up when I get it back from paint. You have more options with a Yami motor and you could make any hull work with a Kawi motor with some work. It is just making the drive shaft line up. Easier said than done but I have access to a machining tools so it is just time for me. Also PHP makes a BA 850 big bore out of a SXR motor. For more options sell your SXI and buy a RN and swap everything strait into any hull that has a Yamaha pump. I went with EME because all I have is Kawi X2 stuff so I had to pick everything else up regardless.

I don't think it's an issue of performance because you can get big pumps in both brands and if you can have 2 motors of both brands hypothetically producing the same power and tq curves I don't think there would be much of a difference...it is more so that Yamaha has most of the market share when it comes to freeride/freestyle boats

Haha I'll rephrase, space cowboy, if you had the choice of the two for free which would you choose and why? Not because you're a yamaha guy etc.

The choice really matters with what have to start with. I have a 750 Kawi motor as stated above so it was easier for me to go with a EME kawi drivetrain setup hull. If i had already had a yamaha drivetrain I would have probably decided differently. I can still put a yamaha or polaris motor in my ski with the aid of adapter plates available from EME. So in my case with my current parts/engine if one was offered for free I would have chosen a Kawi setup version.

If someone was giving me an unlimited budget ski for free it would be all Yamaha. Does this make sense?

Complete sense. I'm in a very similar position, I have all the kawi stuff and I'm trying to decide on a hull.

I'm assuming you would pick yamaha for the no budget ski because of the sheet amount of freestyle specific parts made for them v.s kawi? At least that's what I've noticed.

You can put a Kawi motor in any Yami based hull thanks to the Rad Dudes bedplate. As for Kawi motors being junk, thats a debate lost at the finish line every year at WF's. Yami motor has had more builder support over the last 10 years with less racing and more free ride/freestyle emphasis. They both have strong points as well as weak points. Either can be built up for more power and with all things being equal they will both perform.

Yea, I wanted to bring up the point about racing. Also, a lot of people are putting 1100 kawi motors in blasters. It is totally possible to have a nice freestyle ski with a kawi drivetrain.
