keep hitting my head attempting subs

So ive been practicing doing subs on my stock 00' SJ and when i get it under water, my head always hits the damn pole. This time my head actually broke the padding off the pole! Cant figure out what im doing wrong. Im also 6'1 if that helps thanks

Keep your arms extended when you push the nose under. Don't go limp when you hit the water. Wear a helmet lol.

lol good idea. i have a helmet but its an HJC full size from when I rode my cbr. Guess that will have to do! What helmet do you recommend? Any suggestion on a aftermarket pad?

I wear a Bell Sanction bmx helmet and I love it. Just look for something lightweight and doesn't hold water.

on that helmet, do the metal things by the ear area rust? I have a helmet I got from blowsion, first time in the surf it rusted like crazy

yea, they all rust. just have to attempt to clean and dry them when you can.

Never hit my head doing a sub, if anything I usually grab too much throttle and get ripped of the back while under water.

I also ride with a 661 lid and like it a lot.

I usually go WAY over the bars on sub attempts, I gave up pretty quickly.
