Other Kid friendly starter ski?

My kids are getting to the age where I could start planning a 'kiddy' ski for them. Maybe i'm just bored and need another project... who knows...

I'm thinking something like a WR500 or similar and doing a throttle stop to keep them from flying across the lake.
But even that is a big ski for little kids to putt around on. Maybe chop the seat and make it a flat deck?

Wasn't there a guy building kid sized standups but they were really pricey?

I've had some interesting ideas floating around in my head but they're all pretty involved. (building a kid sized standup hull from scratch, potential for a electric ski etc...)

Anyone have any suggestions or stories about what they've done?

As an FYI the finger throttles on Kawi couches like the ZXI and Ultra have an adjustable governor built in. You might be able to use one of those on whatever you decide on.

( 8 Years ) 550 with a restricted throttle....I basically rigged the throttle to be able to be pulled full but only opend a quarter, they learn so fast its crazy, he is now already on a square nose with no more restrictions ....

I think any 300/440/550 or even a 650 Sx are great skis to get started

a stock wr500 isnt all that quick, it was my first ski. just loosen up the throttle cable till it will only open half speed. should top out at 20mph and its a cheap starter ski. they can be found running for 2-500 bucks.

Well my kids are little, (2 & 3 y/o) so even next season might be too soon to do anything, just have to see what my 3 y/o can do at 4. But i'm really looking forward to getting them involved in the sport.

The 300sx seems like a decent way to go, they could still sit in the tray etc. I figure if I have a plan, I know what to keep an eye out for.

300sx would be a good idea. 4 is young, not sure what your area says, here under 16 cant even run one legally. dam police

my kids start running on my 300sx , but the handepole is so heavy, for that , i've take off all plastic and foam arround it , just leaving the two square tube and steering syst, it was the more lightest handepole of the world ;-)))

Our kids started on 550, but not likey. Too wobly. Tried RN, and they were too light for it , the ski kept going nose under, while kneeling, taking on water. Sxr a bit powerfull and heavy. 750 SX was the winner, air intakes are on top, light plenty of power but not too much, stable with the tubbies, wider tray than 550, and it had nice paint job so girls loved posting them selves on Facebook with it. Starting age was about 6 and now they are teens, and still love the SX. Except my son, he likes the ROK. He says it rides like a crackhead, in a good way.

with a JS hull you can get a wedge n turn a standup into a very stable boat

the X2 hull also has a training wheel kit as well

Found a 300sx for 75 bucks locally .Made contact with the guy the other day. Think ill pick it up next week. Mcdogs son rides a baby scream on TL like a wild man. Seriously this kid has an alter ego when he gets on it.
