I have an 87 (efi independent front 4*4) odometer died at 275,000 miles that was before I got it 10 years ago
-note not my daily driver but its been flipped rolled and used as a ranch truck original tranny/clutch/motor every window init is now broken Only thing I've ever replaced was my seat pad, roof and shocks lol

Some friends stole a blue truck exactly like that when I was about 13.....we joy rode that thing for weeks. Beat the hell out of it! The only thing that ever went out was three of the four breaks. We beat it as hard as we could.....plus grinded gears on many occasions.....it was a gutless wonder.

I was big into diesels a few years back and all the diesel mags were talking about the big 3 as well as Toyota offering small diesels in their half tons in Canada and the US by 2010. I don't know if the economy or gov. regulation killed that plan but I was really looking forward to it.

What's stopping you from importing a toyota diesel from panama? There are imported right side drive vehicles all over Canada and the US, so what would it matter on fuel type?

I bought my 98Taco with 116K miles on it. Drove it 7 yrs and put 170K of my own on it (so around 286K total). Still looked great. I had received a notice from Toyota about frame rust perforation buy-back deal they had going on but it was still in good shape and didn't qualify. No worries, I just kept driving it. Then I was changing ball joints and tie rod ends one day and saw a tiny rust spot on my frame. I pecked around with a hammer and found two small holes in my frame rails. One dime size one nickle size. I put all my tools up and took it to the dealership. Took about a week but Toyota cut a check directly to me for 150% kbb value. Paid 10900 drove it for 7 years and got 10300 back out of it. That's pretty good customer service if ya ask me!

I thought about this before while on a trip to Costa Rica. EVERTHING in Costa Rica is diesel. A local told me that all the South American countries all have socialized medicine and as a result any item purchased new has a 50% tax added to cover the costs, so a new toyota Diesel $50,000 + ($25,000 or 50% tax) well you get the picture

their also generally assembled in the same country as sold and the assembly quality will vary by country----.i.e- 80's toyotas from colombia are bad, but the brazilian ones from the same era worked flawlessely

Someone mentioned the Toyota diesel being available in Canada.?.?. Was that the old Toyota trucks or the new ones? I could work a deal with my parents and import one...or two...

I like the land cruiser truck. The older one seen in picture would be easy to get parts for as it is like the jeep style fj40 that was sold in the states. The newer style land cruiser truck is cool (see youtube video) but never made it to the states and may be hard to deal with parts.
