Now I have a concern. My buddy just talked to an engine builder (recommend and big name so I won't mention who) but they said to stay away from the r50 and go with maxima927. Any thoughts?? How much of a difference or just someone who has stayed with the 927 and diehard on it?

All it takes is one bad experience (whether is it because of the oil or not) for someone to not recommend a certain type of oil. Tons of people run R50 with Zero issues.

927 will actually separate from the fuel at lower temps..... like 50 ish degrees. But that doesnt keep me from running it in my rc airplane

Saw this on 927 temps and cautions

Castor 927 is a unique blend of highly refined castor oil, a specially prepared synthetic and an additive system that reduces carbon and gum formation and provides excellent rust & corrosion protection. Castor 927 also contains an exclusive additive that keeps power valves cleaner and working properly. For all of us that wish to keep our air and water cleaner, Castor 927 is biodegradable. Castor 927 keeps on lubricating; where other lubricants turn to carbon or vaporize, and provides extra protection on cylinder walls, bearing journals and other critical areas at temperatures much higher than other lubricants.

RECOMMENDED PREMIX RATIOS
50-80cc (24-32:1) | 125cc (24-40:1) | 250cc (24-40:1) | 500cc and up (32-60:1)

CAUTION
Not intended for use in oil injection systems. When blending with alcohol it normally requires more oil. Care must be exercised when blending with low specific gravity (below 0.730) race gasoline or aviation fuels and in temperatures below 35ºF as separation may occur. Separation may also occur in alcohol containing a high percentage of nitromethane. Check before using.

My builder says mix all the oils together to get the best from everything. If there was a low quality oil it’s only a small percentage of the homebrew ratio you just mixed up and the good oils will outweigh the bad… duh, c’mon guys lol

If you have a pv motor the 927 might leave some residue. I kept getting an oily residue on the power valve boots.

Kyle from Dasa recommended Motul to me (not sure which one though). Im going to try the motul 800. He said everytime you rip the engine apart it looks pretty impressive.
He also had good words on Klotz R50.

I just bought the 5 gal bucket of 927, so thats going to be for the stocker non pv boat. He said 927 is great for non pv motors but it might cause pv motors to stick over time. I wish would known that earlier, but I learned the hard way. Gotta love the smell of 927 for forsure!

The Klotz guy is a great guy, a true professional. Highly recommended and great pricing too!
